The chance to flex its Military muscle ! thats about it really ! Also the chance to "safe face" infront of the world, to test its weaponary and armour, high tech misiles and combat rediness and effectivenes (I know, I have an opinion, but can't spell !). Mostly the opportunity when your simmering for a fight to take action against a seemingly weaker or outdated foe. The thing that amazes me is that not so long ago the US were sympathetic to the countries they have gone to war against, it's usually the way, than they'll spend billions rebuilding a crippled economy aka Japan. While back home they have a desperate problem with the homeless - ever been to SanFrancisco ? It's probably born out of misguided patriotism, wanting to pick a fight ! The American Revolution, war of Independance, I actually believe if the French and Spanish didn't become involved that may have been vastly different ! and America may have had a different attitude and would be a better place ! Having said that it's not all American bashing - they have a few great Allies through thick and thin, one they were once at War with ! The other they helped safe in the South Pacific in the War against Japan, when the Brittish high Command refused to release our troops from the Middle East ! and we only had a Militia National Guard between us and the enemy. These deads are NEVER forgotten !
Oil supplies may be another factor - offcoarse ! They are the largest economy in the world and have the largest consumption and need for supply resources. Beyond all else I believe some peolpe need to have a fight, if you ever visit Washington DC, you'll understand why ! Stand at the Lincoln Monument, WW11 Memorial, and Washington inparticular - even as a Non American it's truelly moving ! They really believe in democracy to the death and the right to bear arms, based on their forefathers. That may also explain the gunghoe attitude and approach in combat, sheer numbers, large casualties and OFTEN ENGAGING THEIR ALLIES IN FRIENDLY FIRE ! Than saying oops sorry ! Where do you draw the line between courage and reckless engagement (& endangerment). They may also be wanting to show the "sleeping Giant" - China that they are very combat ready or may simply be looking for an excuse to engage Iran. After a while its gotta become Questionable even for an American. Although there are those who believe their sons and daughters have a right to die on foreign shores - unbelievable isn't it !

We have not lost a single American civilian due to a terrorist attack. How's that? Prior to 9/11 we lost the civilians during the 1st WTC and the civilians of the embassy attacks. We as a country sat back and did nothing. We bombed an aspiran factory but nothing meaningful. The fact is the terrorist are flooding into Iraq and fighting US Soldiers. As a US Soldier (returned from Iraq in May), I would rather fight them there than have my 9 year old attacked at his school in the states. The US needs to wake up and see the big picture. At this point drop the WMD, Blood for Oil, Finishing Daddy's war propaganda and open your eyes. We are at war. We have been at war for over 25 years. It is not our fault, we did not ask for this fight. We need to fight them in Iraq and other places outside the US or they will fight us in the streets of the US. History has tought us that.

The U.S. is gaining more and more enemies. Just look at the world opinion on the U.S. nowadays. This doesn't include the cost of waging the war that's becoming a huge strain on the economy, the military and civilian losses, and the destabilization that such wars causes to the current state of affairs around the world. The U.S. is increasingly losing its credibility in its foreign policy and intentions in dealing with the world, and therefore is no more seen as a fair and neutral arbiter of world peace.

This is a good question. But I guess that the ones in the White House would say that they gained an important thing: Soldiers were trained for the next war.

You need to look at your history a little better out of all thr countries the USA probably has used its military less to solve problems than most of the worlds industrialized nations. So people oppose us, the ones that do usually look at the US for protection also.

How about freedom and a sense of pride? I would rather have the war somewhere else than over here. My sister just sighned into the marines a few weeks ago, and I am extremely proud of here. I'm gonna support here 100% as well as all the others who put their lives on the line for our protection everyday.

Americas children, and its childrens children, will be paying for this war for a long time to come. And all because Iraqis were seen as a National threat to the security of America (dont ask me how, ask Bush, he seems to know. I think he still thinks they led the charge during 9/11)
