There are multiple causes of piles or haemorrhoids.
Anything which puts strain on the blood vessells in and around the rectum and or anus can cause them- some unlucky people are genetically prone to them (varicous veins/incompetence)runs in the family.
Factors which predispose to them are: Childbirth and pregnancy, constipation and straining on going to the loo, sitting on heated areas for prolonged periods(ie radiators),poor diet, obesity and anal intercourse, spending prologed periods sitting on the toilet- do your business and leave!!Dont read for half an hour

Are you referring to hemorrhoids which are dilated, twisted veins located in the wall of the rectum and anus? Anything that puts pressure on these veins is a cause for hemorrhoids; i.e. heavy lifting, pregnacy/childbirth, constipation, extended sitting (truck drivers). A less frequent cause is increased blood pressure in the portal vein. A doctor can distinguish the dilated, twisted veins that occur in this condition from common hemorrhoids.
