I'd say as everyone oil but that's only 1 of the issues.
The region since year dot has been the centre of the Universe as Humankind really got going there and it has stayed the centre of the Universe ever since.
As such any state player is and has always been climbing all over that region like a rash on a mission.
Always poking into nooks and crannies and playing footsie with the local chieftain big wig.

The days of interstate gaming however is largely over now, since the second world war we have entered into the new era of regional games. Power and influence is what counts, over everything politics, philosophy, culture, economics, religion and even what clothes you wear and food you eat.
Bush is about as much of a friend to the House of Saud as Mossad is, but the game is more important than personal likes and dislikes leaders will bed anyone I mean come on look at Saddam hardly Claudia Fischer was he.

Even though it was factually 100% correct, the program risked upsetting the Saudis.
For some reason, I am reminded of 'Kent Brockman' on the Simpsons
"I, for one, welcome our new Saudi overlords"
