And why must they throw around the 'youre going to hell if you dont believe what I believe' card around? Are they so insecure about themselves that they have to judge others? Or what? Why do they think they are better than everyone else, when they are clearly not, both by words and actions? Stand back, and watch the attacks come. Im praying for a 'real' Christian to answer me though, without falling back on rhetoric, or bible verses...Thanx...

You know what else is funny? People with the highest percentages of best answers agree with me for the most part. LOL I think that says a lot in, and of itself.

Grey, even though I asked for no bible verses, I still appreciate your answer, but I do not believe that Jesus was the sole son of God. We are ALL sons and daughters of God. Just because the Christian bible says something does not automatically make it true. IF its true for you, fine. It dosent make it true for me. Just because I believe that, does not mean Im going to some make believe place called hell. But I do appreciate the intelligent answers from the Christians, most of them. Just make your voices louder than the rabble, you know what I mean? U need better PR, and the wrong people are getting the press time...

Many Christians are hateful bigots because many of them have a cult mentality- they cannot fathom independent thought, and grow enraged when another person does not conform to their beliefs. Notice how the rabid Christians put little emphasis on Jesus's teachings about peace and charity, but rather call for people to 'worship' him and 'obey' him. The threat that you must worship Jesus OR ELSE you'll burn in Hell was propaganda fabricated by the Christian church to control people through fear. It was not an edict from God. I do think Jesus lived, but was an ordinary human being-a great one at that-Like Ghandi or Martin luther King-and I have the highest respect for him- People who worship him as a God totally miss the point-and his message- plus such people are clearly detached from reality. I get a kick out of the predictability of Christians who demand others worship Jesus- yet they themselves have never actually helped a poor person or engaged in charity- something Jesus would do......Jesus Christ- the peacemaker- has my respect and admiration- but the cult of Christianity is a cult of self loathing and hatred-it has little to do with Jesus's actual message. Religion is often a magnet for the mentally ill- so don't be surprised if zealots from any religion react with hostility to people who have different ideas of there herafter...
And of course, Christians retort by blindly regurgitating biblical scripture, as if that somehow proves their position is correct.
Blindly reciting biblical passages without actually thinking about what they are reciting is typical christian cult mentality. Christians need to put a sock in it and get out there and help people- not hate them. 'Salvation' comes through helping others- not through blindly worshipping Jesus as a God.

Not all Christians are the same in their methods, not all Atheists are the same, etc....Quite frankly, it's kind of sad that you haven't experienced Christ or Christians in a better way. I think that a person's actions speak much louder than their rhetoric, don't you? Besides, the more that you preach, the more people will judge you by those words. I don't think that I'm better than anyone, on the contrary, the older I get, the more I realize what a crapper I can be, I just think that as a Christian, I'm grateful for the understanding of grace. Yet, here's the conundrum...if you can't fully comprehend grace for yourself, how can you ever give it to someone else? A person with a loud mouth and no grace, usually crumbles spiritually when the hard times roll around. In the end, no matter what happens after death, we all have a right to face it on our own terms. I believe God gives us that priviledge as a free moral agent.

It's hard for me not to to lean on bible verses cause that's how I measure everything... with God's Word.
And what it teaches me is to always have an answer ready with courtesy and respect, keeping a good conscience...
not attacking ... but for the love of my fellow man to tell folks about the hope that I possess. So folks that yell "fire and brimstone" unless there's a literal fire... aren't following God's ways and may have some alternative motives, misconceptions of Christianity, or don't found their beliefs in the Bible which details Christ's ways.

If you want a "real" Christians answer, then that person would not be giulty of all the things you mentioned, would he? I'm not perfect and I don't think I'm better than anyone else. Ironically, that sounds like boasting, but I try to follow what Jesus said. "The one who exsaults himself will be humbled and the one who humbles himself will be exsaulted. I also don't think that people who believe different things than me are going to hell because of it. Christians misinterprete the bible when they think only Christians go to heaven. This is something I've commented on many, many times, and I'm sure this won"t be the last.
For example I often hear John 3 :16-18 as proof that you have to believe in Chrisianity to be saved but people leave out verses 19-21
I know you didnt want bible verses but please bear with me. This is how it goes:
16-18......For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world but that the world should be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has already been judged, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God.
NOW 19-21
ANd this is the judgement, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds be exposed. But he who practices the truth, comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.
You see, it is evil doers, not people who don't happen to be Christians who perish. If someone is in the light, that person is with Jesus(who is the light) even if they don't know it. In Matthew 25 31-46 (I won't type it to save time) Jesus says he will reward those who serve him even if they don"t know it is Him they serve. So I think Christians are getting it wrong when they think that only Christians go to heaven. I will make no excuses for Christian hypocrisy . I'm just sad how it drives so many people away. I always try to remember that the log is in my eye and only a speck is in anyone elses. I hope to be a good example in word and deed of what a follower of Christ is. He calls us to love and forgive. And to remain humble. In return, the joy of walking in the light is immeasurable. Thanks for taking the time to read. I wish you the love of Christ in your life. God Bless.

Most Christians are not rabid, insecure and afraid, for those who answered that way.Yes,I'm sure a small minority of Christians are overly pushy and militant.
But look at it from their perspective. They believe that everyone is doomed to hell because we are born sinners, and the only way to get saved is by Jesus.Since they believe in Jesus, and that He is the only way to salvation, they believe that it would be possibly the highest act of cruely *not* to tell people about Jesus, and that they are doing a loving thing.
Yes,some of them go far overboard, and think that they are better than everyone else. But are all Christians like that? No.

Dear Friend,
A true follower of Christ would never attack anyone. Jesus tought that we should in fact love our neighbour as ourself. Consider who Jesus meant by our neighbour,
A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, ‘Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.’ Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?" He said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise.
At the time Jesus told this parable, Samarians were considered by the Jews to be a very unclean people who worshiped false gods. Yet Jesus clearly used this illustration to teach that no matter our differences we are all gods children, and he loves us all. Good Christians behaviour should be enough to testify through their actions that they follow Christ. The lord also commanded us to 'Go and do likewise'. The bible also teaches us to be 'long suffering. slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness. The bible does ask that we declare the Gospel of Christ, but this does not include attacking anybody.
I hope this answers your question
God Bless and keep you.

Probably the same thing that makes rabid atheists attack beliefs they don't agree with.
Update: So you're Jewish and believe in God? Who cares? Your question is still just inflammatory rhetoric intended to piss people off, which of course makes you no better than a rabid atheist. But hey, at least you're not a smug, self righteous douche bag like those Christians you hate so much, right?
And yeah, I totally agree--a poster's percentage of best answers on Yahoo Answers is definitely a tool I'd use to measure intelligence.

Christians are NOT suppose to be telling people that they are going to hell. They are to show the Love of the Lord as Jesus would. We are to share our faith, as in what the Lord has done in our own lives as a witness of Jesus Christ. We are to behave in a manner that will cause people to want what we have,"The righteousness, the peace, and the joy in the Holy Ghost " This is 'The Kingdom of God '.That's why The Lord said,"the Kingdom of God is at hand" We can have it now, in this life. People do, however have to know the alternative. Salvation is a 'gift' from the Lord. There's nothing that you can do to earn it.Just believe that Jesus is who He says He is. And the sacrifice He made to give us this freedom to have Righteous, peace, and joy in the Holy ghost. Nothing in this world can accomplish that, only God! I didn't want any part of the church before I learned of the love of God. All I heard, growing up was," You're going to hell if you don't live right and go to church." Who wants to hear that? I wanted no part of it! Then one day, I accepted Christ. I began to know the Love of the Lord. The more of Him I got to know, the more of Him I wanted to know. I didn't have to give up anything, I wanted to! He changed me,my desires,my heart, my thinking, everything! I've never been so at peace in my life. The love of God is not condemnation,it's enlightning. Nothing in this world compares to it. NOTHING! I have so much fun, now. I sing all the time, no matter what I'm doing. From doing dishes to digging ditches. I see beyond peoples faults, and see their needs. I mess up all the time, but God never turns His back on me, and He still uses me to bless others. All you have to do, is be willing. We need a Savior, and Jesus is IT!

I was watching the Dog Whisperer (nothing else was on of course), the whisperer had to examine this big dog that was very aggressive. It would bark at all other dogs, people, the whole deal. Pretty spooky dog. Anyway, it turned out the dog was just INSECURE and acted so scary because it was so SCARED. I couldn't help but think of our friendly Christians after watching that show.

I believe that you have hit apon the correct analogy. Born agains are suffering from a disease, much like rabies. And it's a disease that must spread from mouth to mouth, which is why you are bombarded by their vitriolic diatribe, it is the virus trying to wriggle it's way into others to infest. Luckily, there is an antidote, common sense, and logic. Just feel glad that you are immune, and take pity on the ill. ;-)
