Hi,
I work in an opticians and my husband is an optometrist so I have some understanding of prescriptions etc.
Looking at yours I would say you do not need glasses unless you consciously feel your distance vision is inadequate. You might possibly want a pair of specs for driving if you felt that things needed sharpening up a bit.
My prescription is something like
R -1.25 - 0.25 x 40
L -1.50 -0.25 x 90
and I manage without glasses most of the time, I only wear them for driving and church. So I really wouldn't be concerned about wearing glasses, your prescription is about the lowest you could get.
Hope this helps. If you're still concerned, you should always be able to go back to your optician to discuss things further.

That would be a very minor prescription. It's not very strong. I agree with her (although I'm not an optometrist) you could probably go a year or so without them.
That said, eyesight only gets worse, it doesn't get better. You sound like you're surviving now without them - you don't say how old you are though - but there are spectacles in your future. Next year it will be a little bit worse, and the year after that, a little bit more.
Note that wearing them doesn't halt the decay of your eyesight. I was originally prescribed glasses when I was five; I wore them inconsistently for many years, but when I was in my mid-20s I started wearing them full-time. Even now, 40 years later, I have to get my prescription changed every year or so - vision just slowly gets worse.
That said, at this point, I wouldn't be too funcitonal without them. I need them; but as my eyesight continues to change, I need progressively stronger and/or different prescriptions.
So you can get them if you want. I agree you can probably not get them too - that was a very weak prescription. But at some point you will actually WANT to have them, because you won't be able to see without them, at least in some circumstances.

You received what sounds like excellent advice from someone who seems to be the consummate professional.
Rather than just sell you a pair of glasses the need for which was very borderline at present. She gave you good advise instead and recommended a watching brief.
If you feel your eyes are deteriorating before the year is is go back and discuss it with her.
My advise stick to someone like this, they are few and far between!

I found that the more I wear my glasses the more I need them now! I would go with the opticians advice and leave it for another year. If you don't need them yet save up and buy a really cool pair when you do! I wear mine like a fashion accessory and have several pairs to mix and match with whatever i'm wearing!!!!

There arent a lot of people that can read the last line on the chart at that distance unless they have super eye sight. Unless you need to read very small print...I should'nt be too worried.

I'm sure she knows what she is talking about, for her it is more cost effective to try and sell you glasses, which she "honestly" didn't do, when I took my daughter for a test, she couldn't even read the top row her sight was that bad. Just go back in a year, maybe you'll need them then.

If your optician agree with me than you must take spectacles because if you do so than in a year your spects will be removed due to already corrected eye sight.
