We are planning our weding day - How much time should we allocate for key stages of the day? We are having the civil ceremony about 12:30. When should we plan the breakfast / speeches / Evening reception / 1st dance etc.

Just as a rough guide to help in the planning of the photographers / musicians / djs etc.

Thanks

As a rough guide; I would say.

12.30 - 1.30 your ceremony

1.30 - 3.00 Your Photographs and Drinks

3.00 - 5.00 your Wedding Breakfast

5.00 - 6.00 your speeches

6.00 - 7.00 an hour for yourselves

7.00 - end your reception.

It doesn't matter if times waver a little, but it can help to have a few guidelines.

So much depends on the country you live in and are being married in. I live in Scotland and my daughter is having a church wedding this year also at 12.30. This is early as normally here wedding like this would be most popular time 2 - 3pm. Reason for early time is the reception venue is about 1 hr - hr 15 mins away. Having been 'mother of the bride' before the professional people concerned actually told us (nicely) the timings. Here the photographer/DVD comes normally to the brides house. His/her arrival is timed through experience and hairdresser and make-up people then advise their times knowing they have to be complete for the photographer's arrival. Although the ceremony will last approx 45 - 50 mins as photos are taken in the church grounds the cars/coaches leaving for the reception will still be around. On arrival at the venue there will be welcome drinks and canapies . The co-ordinator at the venue wants everyone seated for 5.30pm. Wedding lines up can go on forever so if you are having one the venue need to make allowances timewise for this. Lots of couples like speeches before the wedding, usually because if nervous it is over and done with and the meal can be enjoyed. However, if guests have travelled to join you they may be extremely hungry so that is optional but hotel must know for the meal commencement time. The band will arrive at 7pm to be set up for 7.30pm for first dance, which will be the time the coaches should have arrived with evening guests, although in my experience it is usually more around 8pm the first dance takes place. Half way through the dancing there will be a 30 min break for the buffet and then continue until midnight. I am telling you all this not to talk about the wedding in my own family but if you don't live in Scotland possibly 'Your Day' programme will be much different. Just rely on the professional unless you are having it in perhaps a hall and it is being left to you I am sure the hotel, photographer, band etc etc etc will keep you right. Wishing you all the very best.

It all depends how far away the ceremony is from the reception hall.

You should time the journey, then add half an hour on any transport time.

People don't like to be rushed when they are all dressed up.

Example:
Civil ceremony 12:30, out by 1:00.
30 minute drive to reception hall, so breakfast should begin at 2.

Once everyone is there, the timing will be easier.
However, you have to look after them all day long, so you'll need things organised.

I got married at 4:00 pm, so we only had to take care of the breakfast and dinner !

12.30 ceremony
13.15 end and guests move to the "breakfast"

(Timings below can be adapted with same "gaps" for lunch / dinner)

14.00 reception (venue ready from 13.45)
14.40 guests move through to main hall for lunch
14.45 guests seated and words of welcome
14.50 starter served
15.15 starter cleared
15.25 main course served
16.00 clear main course
.
16.10 toasts
16.15 1st dance
16.40 guests seated for dessert
16.45 dessert and coffee
17.10 dessert cleared
17.15 speeches
.
17.40 dancing till end

The photography can cause massive delays and so to avoid this i would create alist of the photos that you want taken. make the first picture on the list the one with the most people in in and reduce from there. If you go the other way then you will waste loads of time trying to gather people up from the reception and this is why delas occour. Also give the list to the photograher so there is no confusion as to what is next.

enjoy

Don't forget to allow lots of extra time for the photographs - they always seem to take a long time, and I can understand that they shouldn't be rushed - after all, you want a wonderful record of your day.

I suggest visiting online website such as

http://www.weddinglenox.com ,weddingvendors.com ,onewed.com

Unlike most yellow pages, they have price comparison for the vendors (DJ,videographer, florist, and photographer) you can choose.

You can also try Weddinglenox matching system http://www.weddinglenox.com/membersignup1.php that will match you up with local vendors. I tried it and have good result as I only recieved email from vendors according to my request.

One problem I had with my wedding is that it is hard to locate vendors in most website as most likely they group by states and there are too many of them that's too far from me and I have to look at each site to figure out.

The sites I provide above have a easy to use layout to show you pictures, pricing and location in one page plus, you can send out your inquiry for matching vendor to contact you. That save me lots of time to locate the best vendors with the right price.
