Most probably your peanut butter has turned and gone rancid..it is the oil in the peanut that makes it thus. It may grow mouldy too ..you can see for yourself about its consistency .
Even if you mange to consume it the rancidity will rob you of the vitamins in your body.
I would suggest that you do not proceed with the consumption of such product ...
It has expired since 2003 ...it is not an item of clothing which you can use after so many years.
Do scrap it and buy yourself a new jar of peanut butter if you really enjoy eating this.
Why do you think you have an expiry date on the label?

You will know when you taste it. If the oil in the peanut butter has gone rancid you will know it, which case you won't eat it.

Four years is a very long time ,throw away without delay & get yourself a new lot just when you really need it.
