This is a conundrum. God wanted his son to die. The guys that did it were only performing their prescribed role in this affair. So what is there to forgive?? The statement, I have to agree, sounds good and with deep meaning, but in reality it is meaningless. Bottom line the whole thing was set up by god himself so why the fuss.
P.S
Jesus saved us from what exactly???

Jesus' statement here supports what He said in John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, that the world through Him might be saved. For this reason He requested forgiveness for all those who put Him on the cross so that they would not be condemned. The key verse for Jesus' first coming is John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. With the coming of Jesus God's grace and truth now operates in the world. As this is the age of grace God has withheld any judgement He can now impose under the law of Moses so that the world is now free from God's judgement until the end of the age when Jesus will be judge of all, for reward for believers and punishment for non-believers. Any thing bad that happens now has nothing to do with God's judgement on the earth but only being caused by the fallen nature of the whole world and the work of the enemy.

First of all, according to Glenn kimbal, historian, it is well written that Pilate JOINED the christian church and was received into the flock and forgiven.
there were only a few men that swore an oath not to eat until Jesus was killed, They conspired together with only a couple religious leaders that were religious only for the power.
That only leaves another small group who swore on the blood of their children that Jesus deserved to die.
Most of the rest of people followed these false leaders and believed THEM because they were the ones in charge They did not know for themselves they were following satan. However, there were indeed many people that believed in jesus and spread palm leaves under his donkey as he came into the city.
it takes a long time to study these things, and it takes even longer to understand the differences between controversy.

Its not about knowing what is right or wrong rather its about the degree of your conviction. When you tell a lie for the first time you feel pretty guilty. But as you keep telling one lie after another sooner or later you telling a lie or speaking the truth doesnt really hold much difference to you anymore. The guilt of that sin we may have previously experienced is no longer there. Also, sometimes in the verge of our emptions we fail to rationalise as when we would camly and only have after we commotted the crime do we feel remorse and regret. This is especially so when we're angry. In our fit of anger we exchange very unkind words to even our loved ones. At that point in time we didnt realli rationalise at all after we ve cool down and thought about it dont we all exchange our sorrys? Another reason is because they were decieved. They realli didnt know that Jesus was realli the son of God. And out of their zealousness they did what they though was right. I hope i make sense to you. God bless.

This quote was refering to the ppl that had Him sent to Pilate to die. The ones that refused to believe that he was he was the one foretold in the Bible. It had very little to do with Pilate and the soldiers, as Jesus told Pilate when he said "It is not you with the greater sin but those who brought me to you".

Jesus was refering to the fact that the Romans did not realize the enormity of their brutal act for they were pagan and had no conception of the Messiah, for them this was just another trouble making zealot Jew.
Also even though the Jewish Authorities railroaded Jesus to the crucifixion they to failed to really understand the enormity of this act.

The asking for forgiveness for his enemies is exactly what Jesus taught. They did not know Jesus was the Son of God and they crucified him for blasphemy so the fact is they did not know what they were doing.

I'm not trying to be rude, but he meant they were ignorant and lacked understanding of what he was there for. Pilate did want to crucify Jesus but he wanted to please the people.

He said that because they didn't know what they were doing or who they were doing it to. They chose not to believe in Jesus Christ and they chose not to to see who He really was and He is the Son of God.

They knew not that they were actually killing the Christ; many of them just thought He was a religious phanatic who was a pain in the butt, and interferring with Church politics.
