Hello all. My gas heater has been broken for a few weeks now. I used to shower everyday but as it is freezing out here and the water is even colder than the temperature I have been taking maybe two showers a week. They are ABSOLUTELY freezing. When I finish soaping and I start washing again, my body actually feels warm from all the cold. Anyway I want to know, is this healthy or extremely UNhealthy. Also, I have been having a lot more pains and aches lately. Anybody who knows, let me know.

Hello there.... well as a current student of hydro therapy there is something known as vascular training. With this said it is healthy to shower in cold water as it trains blood vessels to open and close in turn improving over all circulation. Cold water imersion also stimulates sympathetic nervous system increasing white blood cell production which helps to boost your immune system. This all being said from the top of my head. My books are not in front of me or anything just thought i'd give u a quick answer.

It's not EXTREMELY unhealthy It's better to be clean then walk around smelling from Not showering!. Although by taking only cold showers and without ANY heat to the water (I couldn't imagine having to take a shower that cold) Any way YES by showering in such cold water can and most likely will cause muscle aches and pains, because once that water hits the body your muscles DO tense up with no relaxation to them.
If you are going to have to continue taking cold showers then it's a good idea to put on some icy hot or some type of muscle rub after showering to loosen up the muscles. Or make the shower a quick one (which I'm sure you do?) then fill the bath tub just a little and put a few pots of water on the stove heat up the water then pour them into the bath tub and just relax. Good Luck!

Hi Iassim, I would think specially since you are having more pain, and aches that the cold shower is the problem. Get a big pot,and heat up enough water, so you can clean up until you get a new gas heater. A Friend.
