I'm 40 and started college last year, sometimes i ask myself why i'm doing this as i'm struggling for money and have 2 teenagers. I would love to be able to start my own small business after passing my course but have no idea where to get a loan to start it up. I have a few outstanding debts from the past so it's gonna be hard to get someone to trust me. Please dont judge me, at least i'm trying!

Ask your careers advisor at college. They will give practical info and may even be able to help you find a part time job/ holiday work. You may even be entitled to claim more financial help (and so may you kids if they are over 16) although you'll need to speak to your Student Services for that. If in doubt, ask a tutor and they will tell you exactly who to see and where; they will all do their best because it is in everyone's interest that you continue your course.

Good to see someone is trying; in the current environment of excessive regulation and over bearing legislation, giving up can often be a tempting option.
Post some more details (type of course and nature of business if not obvious from the course) and it will be easier to give you advice.
I have to be with a client at 10.00 so further input will be much later.

Ask your bank for advise, take a business plan with you. If they will not help maybe try and find a business partner who can offer some financial backing. Good luck i hope it works for you.
