A lot depends on whether you are in a commercial or a home environment, and what you can afford to do. You don't say whether this is a wireless or wired LAN, but some of the same principles apply to both. If you own/pay for the internet access you should have full control of it, so take a look at what features your internet router provides. You can usually restrict access to particular MAC addresses or IP addresses (the MAC address is a hardware address specific to the network card in the PC or laptop, so it's probably the better option; you can change IP addresses easily). If it's viable for you to do so, restrict internet access to your own PC only. This is particularly important for a wireless LAN where almost anyone can attach if they have the right hardware. For wireless LANs you should also suppress the SSID broadcasts which advertise its availability (this is usually a router option), and turn on encryption. Pick a good complex 128 bit key to run the encryption. For most systems you can use a "passphrase" to generate an encryption key for you, and this should be something with mixed characters (see the password example below). If the LAN users are not given these passphrases, they are unlikely to be able to get onto your wireless system at all. Next, for your own protection, invoke any firewall and anti-virus features you have on your own PC, and do not share any drives. Make sure there are no default user accounts on your PC, and set passwords for the accounts that are on both the PC and the router that have complex passwords of 8 or more characters, i.e. use upper and lower case letters, numbers and maybe dash or underscore characters in the password; like "fArm1nG2998". People may still be able to see your LAN traffic if they have the right tools, but they will have a hard time getting on to your PC if you take a few simple precautions like this. If you have a commercial setup, you could look at installing some form of Proxy server with blocking filters (systems like Websense or Surfcontrol fit the bill). That will probably cost a fair bit more, however, but it does show "due diligence" in protetcting yourself and your business. If the people work for you, then you can always introduce a corporate internet access policy which precludes access to certain types of web site. This is pretty normal these days, and if they don't comply they can be fired (although you may have to produce access logs to prove they did it). That may sound aggressive, but bosses have been jailed (mostly in Europe) for allowing employees to access certain types of website, so it makes sense to protect yourself. Good luck!

I did catch my 13 year old son having alook ..... there is no point punishing them or making a fuss about it ....just told him that he was a bit to young to be on them kind of sites... if you make a fuss they will want to go on there more ignore it and the fun goes away its all part of growing up ..before the sites boys would try and get the mags from the top shelves

Well, my honest answer? I don't have children, so i can't really say for sure. (i know that doesn't really make me a great candidate for answering this, but anyway). If i did have children, and one was caught looking up porn, i honestly have to say that i wouldn't be overly concerned. All other things aside, it would be perfectly normal, of either gender, to be doing that at that age. Interest in the opposite sex is perfectly normal, and natural from puberty onwards.
Of course, as i said, I can't really say for sure how I'd react once the situation arose.

Windows can close these sites on any computer Not much sense locking the stable after the horse has bolted. You may explain to the child, how disappionted you are in thier behavior.Really this is a hard thing to police as children have access to other computers.

You can't punish kids for being curious.
You should, however, speak to them about this, and tell them that not all porn is harmless, that some porn displays violent images, and for this reason, it is for over 18's.
You should tell them that porn is for people who can't have real-life relationships, and that if they are curious about sex, it's much better to get out in the world and find someone of their age to experiment with.
16 is legal for that kind of thing, and a real sex education is far better than a virtual one.

I know you don't want your kids to grow up, and probably prefer to think of them as innocent babies, but you have to face facts.
Speak to them on an adult level, be truthful and they will respect you for it and listen to you.

Not at all its perfectly healthy and normal and natural

In fact it would abe abusive and damaging to say they were dirty or perverted as then they would feel that way about all sexaul feeling inc love and attaction and not be able to form notmal relationships.

As log as its fairly notmal stuff

ie

Consentual in production

No children

No animals

No violence

(silly stuff like spanking and fluffy handcuss dont count as violence I mean something somone would not want to be on the recienving end of)

MAte anyone with hormones will be accessing it wally.

14 year olds get horney too and have hard ons and wet dreams and girlfriends... and guess what many girls like ti too though more looking at the guys

Religions is evil sex is good.

The only thing I would be upset with is if they only looked at pron and could not get a girl/boyfriend

As you cant snuggle up with and cuddle a porn vid or fall in love and play kissy tickle and send valentine cards etc.

As for the poor exploited young girls...

Give over.

When I was travelling the guys had to do boring, shitty jobs for no money whilst the girls could just get their boobies and girlie bits photosgraphed for more cash then I earnt in several weeks

And have far more fun and security...

likewise Jelly wrestlers got $400 a night for wat was effectivly playing TV kids gunge games , having a laugh in a bikini and chucking jelly over the crowd like snowball fights... getting cheered on, getting to feel pretty (bet the had no trouble pulling) and all for 2 10 minute stinits...over 2 hours.

Ie $1200 an hour of work effectively

as most would have been spents chilling out in the waiting room playing games

And pole dancers can earn over £100 an hour and buy a house for cash in two years, another to act as a penion in another two years then have a great life, go through uni for fun and all.

Plus whats the job?

its like being in a band with all the girls thinking you are a sexy hunk with pin up posters of you.

Oh and I forgot... have worked with comapnies involved with Playboy who treated staff far better then most normal companies. inc the girls.

And all had lots of fun.

So I would not punish them... Id punish you for abusing the kid and the models...

As you relgion is not nice

Kiddie abusinvg kids homes, witch burning and inquisitions

or

forced arranged marriages, stoning teengers and stringing them up for having boyfriends

Being sexist and homophobic being mean to nice gays right?

Depends if he/she was accessing the good stuff! Just make sure they aren't using your credit card (especially if it's the dodgy stuff they're looking at). Might be a good time to talk about the birds and the bees...

Punishment works sometimes, better to advise them politely its negative effects on their mind and future life. As reality is not what is shown in such movies.

It'll never happen with my kids, I use parental control software,

I think all parents should have some form of parental control software to protect their children; it's so easy to stumble across inappropriate sites when you're surfing online.
