If our lads in that convoy of vehicles when under attack from the tankbusters, had returned fire in that kill or be killed situation, with a rocket and taken out one of the aircraft do you think the British government would protect our soldiers and defend their decision or feed them to the Americans on a silver plater? You can bet they would want some kind of retribution from our side.

Ed Borden: If you check out your news, or more likely the British world service, you will realise it was a little more recent than a year ago. It was a blatant mistake by American forces, and apparently one of the pilots is now teaching other pilot's, God help our boys on the ground.

I can resolve your question mate, as a serving soldier who has just finished a tour in Iraq, we were told by our military lawyers, that if on occasion you come under fire from a unit that you reconise as friendly, and they do not reconise you, and carry on firing. You are completley within your rights as a human being to defend yourself, even if that means lethal force. As long as you can justify your actions your o.k.

The US has 'hushed up' at least one incident where British troops accidentally engaged US troops.
In fact were were setting up an 'immediate suppression' artillery mission on the people who ambushed the US patrol when the patrol reported that the tracers were red-orange (IOW the people shooting were using NATO standard ammunition).
In this incident the US troops followed doctrine (attempted to disengage and held their fire). We also put our sector on 'weapons hold' (nobody can fire a weapon without explicit permission from their command post).
The stress level grew really high when - after every unit assigned to or authorized to be in our sector acknowledged the 'weapons hold' and our troops were still under fire. At this time we began questioning whether or not this was a fratricide - or enemy using NATO ammunition.
About this time somebody got a hold of the British and they finally ordered all of their units to cease-fire.
When everything finally settled down - we discovered that a British unit had crossed a unit boundary and set up an ambush in our sector without getting permission or even telling anybody.
It was nothing but sheer luck that nobody on either side was hit.
It is not just the US that makes the occasional mistake.

Probably not since Blair is the biggest suck up to America. The thing which gets my blood boiling is that Blair will not admit that he was wrong. He will stand by his decision for having sided with America during the war, even though they were blatanly wrong. And all this crap about a bit of 'friendly fire' and collateral damage...it's not a bit of friendly fire for the poor sod stuck at the end of the bloody machine gun, or rocket or whatever the hell was used...WAR IS WRONG under any circumstance, all the soldiers should come home and send Bush and Blair instead, see if they like being at the receiving end of a bit of 'friendly fire'

before each thing, regardless of the indisputable fact that i did not vote for the guy, i presumed it grow to be an extremely good mirrored image on our u . s . a . that we quite elected a Black guy to the Presidency. regrettably, that instantly diminished. With authorities Order #a million - final Gitmo before he knew the position he grow to be going to positioned them. they're doing each thing to pay again their marketing campaign donors (UAW) with out thinking the outcomes to the yankee people. there is been yet another massive f-up each and each week on account that. Now i'm ashamed. He makes my u . s . a . look like a lily livered limp wristed pansy. What the hell occurred to Bravery, constancy, Patriotism, etc.? he's flushed them down the rest room and expects all his followers to do a similar. Sorry, chum - it really is now unlikely to artwork with me.

If they "retaliated", NO!! What happened was purely an accident and several people and a system were at fault. War is hell and you will have friendly fire accidents. Thankfully these incidents are few and far between. In previous wars the friendly fire incidents were so common no one spoke of them. Why do people feel the need to fix blame on every death. Can't we just say that he died for the cause. So many more Americans have died from friendly fire and we hear nothing about it. One Brit dies ( years ago) and now it is the end of the world, get over it.

All Bull Sh!t We are deeply sorry, I am US Army serving with My Brothers and sisters and best friends the Brits and Aussies. We work together everyday and believe me the pain of even hurting one another is great. we go over things again and again to make sure accidents do not happen. It happens as do all accidents. Please do not make this worse for us than it already is... they were our brothers and we will never loose that pain.

Of course our government would defend such action.Even if you knew it was friendly fire it would not be improper to defend yourself if absolutely necessary.Do expect troops to say 'oh its you you can kill me because we're allies'?

only one way to find out...
lets hope a mistake happens ad we shoot a American plane down and see what happens....
but i don't think our government would cover it up as we seem to be to soft and we would end up taking who ever did it to court and sending them to jail...

The fact is they would not do it, even if being attacked (as they were) because of the excellent training that they receive. If, hypothetically speaking, it did happen, then I have no doubt that the UK Government would come clean with the USA and court martial those responsible.

Dont think they would cover it up as the Us do. If the US found out it would be all over the papers just to make us look as bad as them. But we dont do things like that only the US.
