as a former long time breeder of the Min Pin I can tell you that they are not recommended for apts. Pins by nature are a hunting breed and are very energetic. They are prone to bark at noises as they are also instinctively a guard dog. This causes complaints from neighbors. Pins require securely enclosed yard space to run. There is a book out there written by a husband and wife vets that pertains to a 20 year study they did on dogs, which ones were suited for apts, which must be in houses. The Pin was rated 3rd worst for apts. You would need to look at small dogs not prone to barking and require no yard space but just occasional walks. Pins need space to run to wear off energy. If not they can destroy furniture, walls, carpets etc. Especially if they think they hear or see something that peaks their curiosity.
Once a Pin gets a bead on something it will go after it and is hard to get it to stop. The breeds recommended are the Dachshund, Chihuahua, Bichon Frise, Poodle, French Bulldog,
Pug, Lhasa Apso and the Pekingese. Good luck with your search.

They are barky. Just remember that an apartment dog needs lots of walking for exercise.

We have a beagle and they are good in apts (loud though). I have a friend who has had both a poodle and a pom in her apts.

Go to iams.com and take the breed selecter quiz to help you find the right breed for you! http://us.iams.com/iams/en_US/jsp/IAMS_Page.jsp?pageID=DBS

Malteses' and Yorkies are very cute and not as prone to being as yappy as Pomeranians and Chihuahaus. Another good one is a Puggle (Pug/Beagle mix).

They are all good suggestions - I would personally go for a cheeky Chihuahua http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/how-to-train-a-chihuahua.html

Best of luck with your selection.
