Bring eggs to room temperature before using.

If the egg has been stored in the refrigerator it can be warmed gently under a flowing hot tap.

Place sufficient water to cover the eggs in a saucepan and bring to a gentle boil.

Lower the eggs carefully into the water, using a tablespoon.

When the water reboils, start timing and reduce the heat so that the water simmers gently.

Fast boiling makes the egg white tough and causes the egg to bang against each other and crack.

Timing boiled eggs depends on the size and degree of hardness desired.

You should start timing the eggs from the moment the water first boils.

Soft-boiled (soft whites, soft yolks):
Large size: 3 minutes 20 seconds.
Medium size: 3 minutes.
Small size: 2 minutes 40 seconds.

Medium-boiled (hard whites, soft yolks):
Large size: 4 minutes 15 seconds.
Medium size: 3 minutes 50 seconds.
Small size: 3 minutes 20 seconds.

Hard-boiled (hard whites, hard yolks):
Large size: 10 minutes.
Medium size: 8 minutes.
Small size: 7 minutes.

Soft boil. Prick it at both ends to stop the shell bursting and making a mess.

Bring the water to the boil (enough to boil the egg). Some people say put the egg into cold water and then time from the point of boiling, but I find that a faff - if you are making a cup of tea while waiting for the water to boil, nine times out of ten the water will come to the boil with the egg in and you are distracted!!!

Let it come back to the boil (a matter of half a minute) and then set the timer for 5 minutes.

Meanwhile make some toast and spread with marmite

Remove from water into the egg cup.

Lop the top off and add salt and pepper if desired. Dunk your soldiers in and mmmm. White should be set and the yolk still runny. I fancy one now, but I cannot, coz I am in the library!!

I would let the one egg come to a good rolling boil and then cover let it set for 15 minutes. Usually i boil about 6 eggs at a time refrigerate eat just boiled or mask them up and make an egg salad sandwich. Or put in potato salad. Maybe i like boiled eggs too much! If you like scrambled eggs and a little something different add a(CUT UP) Jalapeno pepper to two eggs and a little milk(can use 1 egg and 1/2 Jalapeno pepper-can add cheese.Use less pepper about 1/2 that amount unless you like it hot. Make some hash browns by peeling one large potato (or wash well and leave peeling on) use a grater and grade it up add about1/2 small onion(CUT UP OR GRADED) fry in olive oil. Fry until brown turning. Make a wholewheat toast. Pretty good. That is what i will have later on and coffee. An omelet is good with the Jalapeno pepper added too.

If you want a soft-boiled egg, maximum of 3 minutes. Make sure water is boiling first (amount must be enough to completely cover the egg), turn off the fire, put in the egg, cover your pot and leave it for 3 minutes.

If you wat a hard-boiled egg, put your egg in tap water, boil the water. By the time the water boils 1-2 minutes, your egg should be hard- boiled.

Depends how down you want it. Soft done about 1minute and well done about 2 to 4 minutes. When is well done even the shells cracks it self.
