Yup that could be the problem, you may have some of those rings turned around (not in the right order). Unscrew the cap and remove the forend and take a look, take notes before removing, switch some of the rings around and try that. If that don't work give that area a good cleaning. After that try again and if that still don't resolve the problem bring it to your gunsmith.

Ya, I have an 11-87 super mag. Shoots 2 3/4", 3", and 3 1/2". I had the exact same problem with mine. There were several brands/lighter loads I could not get to eject properly. I switched to Remington brand with my 2 3/4" and have not had any trouble since.

Your 11-87 is a gas operated semi-automatic. Your gas tube may have a selector on it which dials in your weapon for either 2 3/4" or 3" shells. I would remove the retaining nut on your forearm, remove the forearm, and examine the gas tube. I'm sure you will find the selector there. I'm going strictly by memory, so bear with me. I believe I might be right. If not, then I suggest going to the Remington Firearms website and downloading their operators manual. It should tell you.
Best wishes.

I've also had that problem with my 11-87. A cousin of mine competes in trap all the time and his suggestion was to keep it 'wet' when shooting light loads. He sprayed the inside of the receiver with some lube, especially towards the back of the bolt carrier ----we worked the bolt back and forth a few times and tried it again with light 2 3/4 shells - no problems since.

I own a 11/87sp and like you mine has had trouble ejecting some lighter loads and I found that it was because the gun is gas operated. I only have this problem after shooting a lot of rounds and have no problems when the gun is cleaned. My suggestion is to clean the gun thoroughly and try that it worked for me. Being gas operated they get fouled up and require a lot of cleaning.

try what has been mentioned above. my brother had an 11-87 and it always had problems shooting light, 2 3/4 inch shells. he always bought the heavy loads and that solved it.

Mine occasionally would jam with low brass 2 3/4" shells. But High Brass have never jammed on me.
