First of all congratulations on taking a step about getting healthy. I'm going through the same thing and I know how hard that is.Anways, had the same problem so when I get a craving for a late night snack I have 1 cup of grapes and that seems to satify me. Best of all they're only about 80 calories.

Try eating bananas. They help stimulate melatonin production which is responsible for making you drowsy. Plus, they're good for you, low in fat, and fairly inexpensive. You could also try eating rice cakes, popcorn without butter, or a healthy veggie snack like celery. Feeling hungry late at night is often a sign of stress. Your body can mistranslate the experience of stress as a need for food to your brain making you eat to alleviate it. Try doing something relaxing before you go to sleep...read, and don't do anything too stimulating like watching TV. If you get into the habit of winding down it will be easier to sleep without a craving and save that budget.

Hey gorgeous! Sounds like you're similar to me. I'm 18 and trying to tone up so I can have a hot bod this year by adapting my lifestyle to a healthy and happy one!
Changing your nutrition and exercise is the only safe and sure way to lose that weight.
Well - this is what works for me. I'm a University student and work 4 shifts a week whilst maintaining a great relationship with my fiance, family and friends (meaning - I don't have much time on my hands to muck around with diets or fads aaaand I'm poor! :P) I do what I know works... This is it ultimately: change what you consume and your exercise habits.
With regards to nutrition:
- I drink a 3 litres of water a day to flush out toxins and replenish all of my organs (more while exercising)
- I eat heaps of fruit and veges (high in vitamins and antioxidants)
- I don't drink alcohol, or smoke
- I stopped having coffee, soft drinks, fast foods, fatty foods and foods high in bad carbs
- I eat foods that are high in omega 3 fatty acids (i.e LSA, tinned fish, etc)
- I try to eat 5-6 small meals daily
- Don't eat 3 hours before your bed time! Make it a strict habit. Brush your teeth and wind down and realise that you don't need to eat at this point and it's merely you wanting comfort food! Just drink water and be good!
Exercise is important! I hope you've considered this too, my fitness goals are:
- Walking briskly everywhere I go throughout the day and I try and increase my normal daily activity
- I do about 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercises every second day
- Remember to stretch muscles before and after exercise and hydrate constantly (plain water)
- Every second day (instead of plain cardiovascular workouts) I resistance training + cardio for an hour.
Anything similar to this will make you more fit, healthier, happier. It's a lifestyle change and its all about self control and taking care of yourself!
If you like the sound of the tips I'm giving and the ideas I have, feel free to email me at fizzy_rach@msn.com ! Maybe we can be health buddies and help eachother through our lifestyle changes?!
Good luck either way!

Popcorn, but if you have to have something sweet, try Cherrios. Its high fiber. Reduce the sugar every night until you cut the cravings for sweets. The more sweets you eat the more you want.
I did two weeks on south beach to detox the cravings for sweets. I ate a lot of eggs, cholesteral dropped, (Idon't get it)
Now I eat a little Cherrios. I just changed my lifestyle be eliminating or substituting and I went from an 18 to 14 and stayed there.
That two week was my first diet.
It wasn't bad for two weeks.

Great, on a budget, can't get any cheaper than this...
One, you could go to bed earlier.
or
Two, I guess it's called the water diet. When you're hungry, drink a glass of water (about 10-12oz), wait 10 mins then see how you feel.
Very Cheap!

I don't know if you have ever tried chickpeas, but I have read somewhere that if you boil chickpeas and keep them store in fridge and eat as a late night snack when watching TV or anything its a good source of filler, chickpeas are tasty and rather energy giving, it does not increase weight and one can use them in salads too or you can do this too......take a cup of boiled chickpeas and add with a cup of low-fat youghurt and eat it at lunch or dinnner.....its good accompaniment with rice dishes.

Work out before you go to bed, that'll knock you out so that you can't wake up and eat anything.
If you really have to eat something late at night, try salads, soups or water crackers.
