I would rather say "half a pound" than 7 ounces.
Some meats (e.g. some steaks) are handled/measured by ounce 6, 8, 12, 16, 22). If you go to a grocery store and ask for ham you would say half, 3/4 or a pound. You would not say 7oz although there is nothing wrong with it.
8oz is half a pound. If you prefer a bit more say half a pound. If you want a bit less then stick to the7oz.
You won't sound like fool.... and if someone does some funny face then you say, "well, whatever is closer to 200grams"... then the person in the deli will look like a fool.

The deli will measure in pounds or fractions of pounds. So ask for half a pound. If you want closer to exactly 7 oz you could say something like "a little less than half a pound".
We generally deal in the following increments: a quarter of a pound, a half pound, three quarters of a pound, a pound, a pound and a half, two pounds, three pounds, etc.
But I suspect they deal with all kinds of special requests.

16 ounces make a pound.
You would ask for 1/2 pound. Like 1/4 th pound or 1 quarter of a pound.. Or maybe you would want 3/4 th's or 3 quarters of a pound.
Ounces = oz.
Pound = lbs.

I'd say half a pound. (or a handful would probably work also)
I've never ordered by ounces but only by 1/4 or 1/2 type.

Go with half a pound, we usually don't order meat by the ounce,
either a quarter, half, 3 quarters or a pound.

u could ask for both but if it were me, i ask for a half a pound or just be specific and say .4 pounds if u want to be specific. all the deli scales in my city that i've seen (i live in Washington State) measure on a 1/10 scale (0.1,0.2,..., 0.9, 1.0 lbs)

You would ask for half a pound if you want to keep it simple. The scales are digital, though, so if you wanted 0.4 pounds, you could ask for exactly that.
