if i say 'come' he comes but he never actually comes to my hand so i can never leash him up. also, if there is another dog he won't even bother listening to me. what can i do? this might get out of control when he gets older.

and he doesn't care that i have treats in my hand even when he sees it

I worked on getting my puppy to come to me by making it fun sometimes. She is beginning to know that I am the boss.... notice I said beginning. Also, I have had dogs my whole life and none of them have ever come directly to us when they are little. It's kinda like getting a 2 year old to come to you. He'll come close enough but not really where you want him. Why can't you bend over and get the leash on him and then say come again, firmly, and pull him over to you? That would help teach him that you want him HERE and not almost here. And some breeds are just stubborn like that. For instance, beagles (and most hounds) have issues coming when called because they are easily distracted by scents. Perhaps you need to look at the breed of the dog to determine if it is a genetic issue or if he's just being a butthead. Sometimes calling a trainer for suggestions helps.

Good luck!

sounds like a leash problem hide the leash when you call him.He knows when you have that out that he is going to be put somewhere is is not too happy with.It takes time but never let him off that leash until you absolutely trust him or you could loose him.Train him in a confined area for a while before you get out in public. It takes time and love and patience!!!!Good Luck!!!

You got to train him better, use treats thats a good start. Sometimes I've noticed bending down to they're level so on you knee's and call him, they feel less intimidated then. Or take him to a professional dog trainer its a pretty simple comand so it shouldnt take long

IMy best advice is to NOT FORCE THE ISSUE! It will take some time. Alot of dogs are shy or just do NOT want to do what you want them to. Have you considered Puppy School/Training?
This would help you and yo

Sounds like you have a stuburn do here. You need to make things a game. ie if he likes to play fetch etc, get a ball or something and call him and make sure he comes., when its dinner etc call him before you give it to him (make him sit first).

By making everything fun and making him do things he does not want to when he wants something (ie dinner and making him sit) he will soon learn that your the boss and what you say goes (to a degree :)

I hope that helps a bit

good luck
