Most of our (American) beers have 5% on average. Anything's name ending in "Ice" will have 5.9. Samuel Adams made a special Edition one run beer that had 23%. My personal favorite domestic is Icehouse...5.5% and smooth as hell. Delicious.
Check my source, lists about 100 different kinds of beer

There are many beers around the world with high acohol content. Sam Adams has a "beer" that is 26.6 %. However it is moe classified as a wine when it rates that high. Canda has had a feew beers that were12 %, Brador from Quebec, Molson strong 8% and others. There are many "beers" around the world with higher alcohol content than Sam Adams. But the South African Beer with only 5% is what we call in Canada...water.

The highest alc/vol is 24%, belonging to Samuel Adams Utopia. I believe they only made around 3,000 bottles though. As for common beer, Camo Ice, Camo 900, and Camo Special Reserve are 9%. Theres also a beer called Zighuli(sp?) Grand that is 9.5%.

Aag nee man bru, don't make us Sou Feffrican names crap now man!
5% is about the norm for beer, unless you are in the usa, where they actually manage to have a minus figure!
South african beers are really, REALLY crap (And I'm violently patriotic), and invest rather in some decent beers that you can find at Makro or trade centre.
But to answer the question:
Leffes is around 6%, Erdinger Pikantus is at 7.8%, La Trappe Quad (I think) can go up to 12% (an amazing amazing beer), but do yourself a favour and get a bottle of Duvel at 8.5% - its sheer heaven in a bottle. If you are in the Jozi area, pop me a line and We'll meet for one!

anyone who thinks a 5% beer is strong is retarded, good beers, not budlight, are almost always 6-10 percent, by good i dont mean mass produced american beers, but microbrewerys etc.
