This is the 2nd infection. I followed the vet's instructions, cleaning her ear and putting the medicine in. She is still shaking her head a lot and scratching her ear. Is there anything else I can try?

This site had pretty good information. http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/ears.html

I have a golden retriever and we always use the ear cleaner with tea tree oil..Eliminates foul odor, and seems to cure what is bothering him. The site I mentioned above gave more detailed information. Good Luck, Hope your baby starts to feeling better

You should have the ear rechecked at about the time the medication should stop, to make sure it's gone completely. Recurrent ear infections are often a sign of allergies, particualrly food allergy. Frequent swimming and bathing can also increase the number of ear infections you see. If it's a food allergy, you'll need to feed a hypoallergenic or novel protein dog food. The hypoallergenic food is Hills Z/D and it's quite expensive, especially on a dog this size. Novel proteins come in many brands, Hill's prescription and Purina LA, HA from the vet, or Royal Canin venison, duck, or whitefish, Wellness also makes venison, duck, or whitefish (usually with potato or sweet potato), Prairie as well, all of these you can get at Pet Supplies Plus. If you try novel protein diet, your dog can't have ANYTHING else for 6 weeks to really be able to tell if the diet is helping. One cookie, and you are back to day one. But it can really make a difference if your dog has allergies (Labs commonly do, that's why all the Labradoodle nonsense)

Ask to get your dogs ears swabbed to check for the type of infection. If the infections persist, get a second opinion

It would be best to take her back to the vet, and get them to have another look at it.
