Do not use white out on your tax return, it will not be able to be read by the computers if white out is used. If you made an error on your return, just print out a new form from the IRS website.

It probably could, but I really would not want to do it.

Your form will either be read by a person or computer scanner. I would want this as perfect as possible to prevent errors. If the Scanner or Person can't read it that well they will make their best guess. Now if there best guess was wrong you might be getting a letter from the IRS wondering why the numbers did not match.

The extra minutes it takes to redo the form might be worth it.

Why not? You don't want an error to go through. That's what white out is for. Or you can put a line through it and make your correction if you think the white out won't stay on the paper. I've never had any trouble with it.

I think so. But it's very simple to type a new tax return at www.irs.gov
The link for the 1040 Form is on the left side of the website, and you can type your info right on the pdf file and print a neat copy of it for your records and for the IRS.
