Upset stomach and possible (but rare) stomach/GI tract bleeding.
However, the doses mentioned are extremely high. Assuming a person took it 6 times in a day (every 4 hrs around-the-clock) that would be 7,200mg. The highest recommended prescription dose is 3,200mg a day - which is much lower than 7,200mg!
The chances of GI bleeding would be significantly greater with such as high dose and could also harm the kidneys! If you or someone else is taking this much - stop now!
Hope this helps.

Are you talking about Motrin (ibuprofen)? If yes, you shouldn't be taking 1200mg every 4 hours. The usual maximum dose of ibuprofen is 1200mg PER DAY, not every 4 hours, unless you are taking it under medical supervision which then in some cases the maximum dose is 3200mg daily. Too much ibuprofen can damage your stomach as well as your liver.

Wow, if you're asking about Motrin (Ibuprofen). Well, you would most certainly experience liver damage first of all, you would have terrible stomach and GI tract damage, and also experience an extermely high level of blood toxisity. Most medical professionals recommend no more than 800mg every 6 to 8 hours or a total of 2100 mg - 3200 mg/day. You're asking about 7200 mg / day which is way more than twice the recommended dose. In addition taking this amount for this long of a period could lead to liver failure, heart failure, or even death. Taking the above stated doses is recommended for only 7 days or so. Anything beyond that is most likely doing more harm than good. If you feel it takes this much ibuprofen to help your pain, you need to consult a Dr to have an alternative anti-inflamatory medication prescribed to you. If a Dr did prescribe this dose of ibuprofen to you, I'd strongly reccomend getting a new Dr.

The maximum dosage for OTC ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, etc.) is 1200 mg/day, and the maximum prescription dosage is 3200 mg/day. If you are taking 1200 mg every 4 hours, you are drastically exceeding either of these limits putting yourself at great risk for 1) GI ulcers/bleeding, 2) rebound headaches, 3) renal (kidney) failure. Liver damage is generally more common with acetaminophen (Tylenol), but can also occur in rare cases of NSAID (ibuprofen) overuse. Other less common side effects include myocardial infarction and stroke. Pregnant women should avoid ibuprofen, especially during the 3rd trimester, as it can cause damage to the fetus' heart and also cause complications during labor and delivery.
