Hello!

I have had a navel piercing for about 3 and 1/2 years now. It's never been infected, I never play with it, I've only have changed it three times, and I haven't used cheap jewelry. Thus, I have been a pretty good navel piercing person. I am ready to take it out, for good now, and am afraid of scarring, even though I have taken good care of it. What are some tips to avoid scarring?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that it's going to scar no matter what. In fact, when getting it pierced, that's pretty much what you wanted it to do, your body healed around the jewelry and formed a little tunnel called a fistula. I don't think you'll have a problem with it closing up(mine closes up if the jewelry comes out for an hour or two), but you are going to have scar tissue(it's been there for 3.5 years now, it's not just gonna up and leave, hehe) But my guess is you're trying to deemphasize the color...my belly button's pierced and the two holes are pretty dark and big. Best suggestion for that is to try Mederma, it's for reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks and maybe it will lighten the color a bit. Good luck.

Alo-vera

My sister used Aloe lotion for a few days after receiving third degree burns from boiling water being spilled down the front of her. She had blisters galore all over her chest and stomache and was told that she would be scarred for life. She only used the Aloe (a few times a day) for a few days until the pain stopped. She has not got one single scar nor can you tell she was ever burned at all.

If you have taken good care of it and haven't stretch the hole you shouldn't have any problems. To reduce even a small scar from the piercing hole itself apply neosporin to it, it will help to leave no scar

My friend didn't have hers as long as yours, but the piercer recommended that she massage the area so as to not have scar tissue. It worked like a charm too. I know she also used neosporin. Unfortunately, I think you will have a scar no matter what.

Just to make sure that you know this
(cause im postive your piercer didn't tell you)
a Navel piercing is a type of piercing called a "surface" piercing.
The difference betweem a surface piercing and others is that a surface piercings goes under the skin instead of threw it
(like and ear lobe, or lip piercing).

And in turn most surface piercings will reject.

go to the website to read more about rejection
