Actually I think you've tried all you could do now. It's better to be turned down than not asking the person out. At least you know that you don't have to hope with the person any more. Find the next one!

Sorry to say it, but it sounds like they are trying to be nice but still get the point across that they are not interested. She probably leaned close so no one would hear and embarass you or her, and the smile was a courtesy so as not to hurt your feelings. Sorry man, but move on.

dont listen to what everybody here is saying. she is just saying no right now. why not just keep talking to her while you meet others as well. and when she finds out that you talking to other girls, she will get jealous and want to go out. what is she was just saying no to see what you were going to say.
