It's just the nature of man. Religion was essentially created from boredom and loneliness, and those two things are a result of natural selection. Extremism can't be helped. There will always be people with tribe-mentality because they're so closed off from education and mass media. It all starts with geographical barriers that prevent exchange of ideas. And plus, man is a social creature. We don't live for ourselves, we live for the people who remember us. And since most relationships fade with time, it seems natural for people to resort to God. As for all the violence, man is just a vicious animal. It helped us survive this far.

Every religion has its own form of extremism that breeds future terrorists. However, most religions have much good people than those crazy ones. Can't say that for Islam though. :)

That is your opinion not mine. I think religion was created to control the masses. Put fear in someone and you can make them do whatever you want. I think people were somewhat barbaric and out of hand way back when. The masses depended on one person ( a king/queen) to rule them and the ruler had to rely on fear to stop the masses from overthrowing them, simply put, me or you attitude. Put the fear of some almighty ruler in the mix and voila people bend to thier knees in fear and would be easily controlled.

Some of us are angry because we realize this means of control is no longer necessary in today's society as we have human laws. No matter how hard you try to convince people that this is all religion ever was or ever will be, they will still hold onto this fear passed down from generation to generation and even if they get a tinge that you might be right in some way, they will just think your the devil trying to sway them so you can never break them free of the chains that bind them.

Actually, I think you're wrong -- religion was created to explain observed phenomena in the world and mankind's place in it. Why are we here? Why does lightning strike? Why are crows black? What is our purpose? Religion was created to answer questions.

Why are people angry with religion? I think anger is a response to a perceived threat, or to perceived criticism, or sometimes a function of disgust. Some religious people act abominably towards others, particularly those who do not share their religious convictions. Unfortunately they're the ones who shout the loudest and get the most press.

The origins of religion are far more complex than your analysis. Also, humans are not as violent as you seem to think. Violent humans are a tiny minority and violent behavior is rooted in dysfunctional parenting. Further, there is very little anger with religion! You are probably basing this statement on the tempest that is Yahoo Answers which is not the real world, I assure you!

Religion to most people is LIFE. Any opposition to it is opposition to their LIFE.

People naturally want to live their own life and believe what they want! They can! However other people do not APPROVE of that other person's life or beliefs. Those same people then get stubborn on FIGHTING and getting others to their religion they forget what those other people want.

This is the ENGINE that starts wars and violence!

If I believed that religion was created because of natural selection, boredom, or loneliness, I wouldn't be religious. I personally find it offensive when people belittle my beliefs by labeling them as mindless instincts.

You have answered your own question....according to your own value system and beliefs. However, I might offer to you that most people are angry with the two violent Abrahamic death cults of Christianity and Islam, which threaten others and try to silence true science and progress. There are many other religions in the world that have value without murderous dogma and support not only science but rational and critical thinking.

People want to do what they want to do. They don't want to be told they are doing anything wrong or unacceptable to God. They get angry because they know it is true. If they didn't care or really felt they were living right, then they would not have the slightest twinge of anger when it came to religion. Their guilty conscience makes them angry.

People are angry with religion because it causes unneeded separation of people which leads to wars.
