a little less than half a mile - very walkable in nice weather. In this weather (it's 12 degrees here right now) you can take the train - one stop (about three minutes riding time) or take the bus- l(ess than ten minutes).

Times Square is at 42nd Street; MSG is around 33rd. It's one stop south on the subway. Take A, C, or E to 34th Street/Penn Station, and you're right there.
