Groups linked to the Ku Klux Klan, skinheads and neo-Nazis grew significantly more active, holding more rallies, distributing leaflets and increasing their presence on the Internet - much of it focused on stirring anti-immigrant sentiment, a new report released by the Anti-Defamation League says.
"Extremist groups are good at seizing on whatever the hot button is of the day and twisting the message to get new members," Deborah M. Lauter, ADL Civil Rights director, said Monday. "This one seems to be taking hold with more of mainstream America than we'd like to see."
Old Klan chapters have been revived and new ones started throughout the South, historically the heart of the group, and in other places such as Michigan, Iowa and New Jersey, says the report, which was scheduled for official release Tuesday.
Last May in Alabama, an anti-immigration rally included slogans such as, "Let's get rid of the Mexicans!" according to the document, titled "Ku Klux Klan Rebounds."

Yes, the illegal immigration is a problem of growing concern to everyone. Its a concern because it affects the economical stability of the country. Many billions of dollars are being spent on benefits for illegal aliens while this countries poor and low income brackets are denied these same benefits. This makes people angry, and causes resentment. However violence is not the answer.
Hate groups use whatever tactics they can for their own personal causes. It is not for the betterment of the nation but for a select group. After these hate groups feel they have accomplished their goal..they will move on to another agenda and attack another group of people.
The solution is not an easy one.We were all immigrants at one time.We must learn to live together for the enrichment of our country as a whole.
Make taxation fair and benefits equal.Encourage them to "earn" their citizenship.Have them serve this country just as they did in their own homeland.; military serve, etc...
Remember that Immigrants and illegal aliens are not the same. Most immigrants come here legally and abide by our laws. After earning their naturalization citizenship they are as much citizens as those born here.Being born in a country should not automatically make you a citizen.Citizenship comes with obligations and privileges.

Unfortunately there will always be hate groups ran by bigoted people who seem to have nothing better to do than start trouble.
If the press doesn't give them too much exposure then the problem will not grow. While these groups try to get their message out on venues such as the internet, once the press starts giving them coverage then more people become aware of it and you have a better chance of people joining these groups.
Look at what happens when there is an outrage about something by a group and the press a hold of it. Do you remember the Maplethrope (sp?) art? Almost no one knew about his art until the national press told the story. Then it became a major attraction throughout the US for months after that!
What I'm trying to say is if you don't give it too much exposure, the problem while still there won't be nearly as big an issue as it could be.

Whenever America has been challenged to the extent she is being challenged today, militia groups have always risen to fill the gaps where government has failed. And failed it has today. But to say that patriot groups are "stirring" anti-immigrant feelings is totally misleading, as does the liberal left-wing media of the alphabet soup networks. And who does this report come from? Notice it was the ADL, a Jew run Marxist organization whose only agenda it is to silence anyone who happens to oppose their leftist ideology. And it's always the same mantra: the Ku Klux Klan is on the rise. But never do you hear the condemnation of mexican hate groups like La Raza, LULAC, Mecha, etc., because they both share the same Marxist design on America: the total collapse of the economic, social, and political system of the US, making it the same as all other third world sewers around the world.
So do not be so quick to judge when patriots like the Minute Men take a stand against government inaction in an attempt to stop or slow the flood of illegal invaders. Someday you may thank them for having the guts to stand a post when you wouldn't. WAKE UP AMERICA, BEFORE IT'S TO LATE!!

Freedom of speach is our right as Americans. I don't like skinheads or the KKK, they are disgusting. But, they are free to hate all day long, I don't believe in censorship. Don't cloud the issue of illegal immigration by drawing parallels between anti illegals and neo nazi groups.I'm a Broncos fan, and I'm sure there are neo nazi Bronco fans. Does that make me a neo nazi?
No. This article was originally derived by The Southern Poverty Law Center which has it's own agenda. Read between the lines.
oh_hell_imagine_that - I own 10 acres of land in New Brunswick Canada, I'd let you live there if you could keep the locals from cutting down my 100+ year old trees, every time I go there all I see are empty chainsaw oil bottles and poorly cut stumps.

I don't know anything about hate groups, but I believe the average American is getting tired of the immigration issue and the lack of border control.
Here in Arizona last election voters passed innitiatives to prevent illigal immigrants from getting government grants to OUR colleges and requiring hospital emergency rooms to require identification.
A lot of voters like myself, hispanic, supported these innitiatives because we as legal citizens work hard to get our kids into college and we pay high hospital and medical costs as a result of the illigal immigration problem.
While I know nothing about hate groups, I am afraid if the government doesn't take action to control this problem, it is possible we may be seeing more hate groups pop up.
As a legal hispanic of this country this does scare me, but I put all the blame on our government.

I do not condone what the KKK stands for, but I understand the anger and the utter exasperation with our government for doing nothing to stop illegal immigration that is continually taking place on our southern boarder. If it were Canadians acting the way the Mexicans and Central Americans are. I would be ticked at them too, it isn't just a brown thing. A lot of the illegals coming here believe this is their land and that we need to leave. These people are coming into our country illegally and are sucking us dry!! Something has to be done and if our government isn't going to do it who will??

If Congress doesn't do something soon I think we could have revolution on our hands in this country . The American People are very frustrated out there and your right , some might try to take matters into their own hands .
But Congress and Bush won't do what they should , like Eisenhower did back in the 50's with Operation Wet-backs , by closing the borders .
They want open borders because of NASCC and NAFTA Super Highway , that much is clear .
