I have to give an informative speech for my Oral Communications class. What are some good topics to possibly do my speech over? I have come up with topics but they are more or less topics for a persussive speech.

Check out http://www.ClassTopic.com They have some great topics that I've used in the past. Each topic has three good sources to get you started on the research, too.

Do you have a hobby or personal interest in a topic that you could share with your audience? That would be a good approach.

I used to do research, on the Internet for a state agency. After retiring (age 52) 2 years ago I joined a civic club. For the civic club, I researched corporations with stores in our community that had Civic Involvement programs - where they might give us money or support for our community projects.

I spent 300+ hours doing this. I found over 45 stores in our area - that the long-time members had forgotten to approach for support.

Wrote down everything I had found. Used this material to write 7 articles that got published in our regional (covers 3 states) newsletter.

Got a call last week from a President of a civic club over 300 miles away. Based upon my articles he was inviting me to come speak to his club on that topic.

So there are probably some topics that you have knowledge of - that some of your classmates do not. To them, you might be "an expert".

In an informative speech- you must speak about something that nobody knows about: I gave one in the same class...I was the only Mexican student so I gave a story and recipe on how to make Tamales. You are informing people- you are providing information about something they are unaware of...it is a lot more interesting than something that people already know about...and what happens if you are off on one of your facts?? You want to provide information on something that you are an expert at...even if it is your own way doing something. Does that help??
