Last year my mom turned 75
We made a CD of her life out of pictures set to music....

From the time she was born to now it was beautiful and had us all in happy tears along with some laughter depending on the pictures

We also rented a helium tank and blew up 75 balloons we made little notes with her first name and an email address we set up just for her ....

the note said it was her birthday and the balloons were released in tribute to her and to please email and let us know that you got it ......
we have had 21 emails as far away a South Carolina..we live in Virginia.....makes you wonder how the heck a balloon got that far =)

she enjoyed letting them go and watching them fly away...I have pictures on my 360 blog under August.....it was a very good day

Take pictures of your mom at various ages and blow them up. Use a "This Is Your Life" theme and arrange for her close personal friends from over the years to share something about her. See if there is anyone she hasn't seen in years that you could invite and surprise her with. Have guests sign a blow-up picture of her or fill out a guest book that she can keep. Hire a DJ to play all the oldies but goodies. If she's just turning 50, then her growing years were the 60's and 70's....the music was great and we were really into bra-burning and feminism as well as smoking dope, protesting the war, and free love. It was also a time of getting back to nature and a healthy way of living. Not sure what she was doing back in those times, but I was living in a commune at one point! Anyway, celebrate the special woman she has become!

Maybe have a "mom thru the years" theme. Look on ebay.com and try to buy some items from the year she was born - things like a calendar, magazines, postcards, a doll, etc. Just put the year she was born in the search box and see what comes up. Do the same for the year she graduated high school (maybe you can find a yearbook or items from her old high school). For the year she got married, maybe make a memory book with things popular that year such as - the top tv shows, the top hit songs, etc.

You could make her a journal jar - see this site:

Good Luck!

"60 and fabulous" - would be great. Just get a fun cake, some fun colorful balloons, and stay away from all of the over the hill stuff - so over-rated. Truly make it a celebration of her life, and you could just get some pictures of her throughout and put them in frames and set them around so you and the other guests can look at them. Sounds like fun!

The theme, 'My Loving Mom' in a big blue and white banner. Have the family to sign their romantic and poetry thoughts on it. The best way to celebrate your love is to have a special picnic and the real loves come when each of you express deeply from your heart on how you feel about her...remembering the embarrassing times growing up...tell her something she never knew you (family) have done as kids.

Did I mention the family should express their love toward her, and say "thank you mom"?

God Bless

Here is what I'd say (and I'm an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree -- so you know that I'm not young):

All any mother at that age wants is a small, intimate FAMILY dinner, with her children around her ... ALL of them THANKING her for RAISING Them to be RESPONSIBLE Adults ... and I mean it! You don't have to do anything fancy -- just write NOTES of thanks, write coupons for helping her do CHORES around her home, and ... most importantly ... maybe each of you could then spend some special 'quality time' with your mother -- alone or in pairs ... just do something with her for a few hours that SHE is interested in doing (after all, she did all the things with HER CHILDREN throughout all those years that were the FOCUS of the CHILDREN and just let her own desires slip away).

you know what would be cute is if you took some pictures of them and put them on your computer. Make a little movie with music and all on Movie Maker it is really easy. Then you can burn it on to DVD and have a small dinner for them then surprise them with a little presentation of their life. Make sure to give them the copy as their gift. I am sure they will love this and it will be small and very cheap too. Good luck and have fun email me if you need any help with the program
