This is not a Catholic teaching.
The Nicene Creed (from the year 325) clearly states, "We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins."
With love in Christ.

The Roman Catholic Church does not baptize the deceased under any circumstance. Catholicism preaches that this earthly life is the only chance for baptism so it would serve no purpose to baptize someone after death. Not to mention, the Holy Father is already baptized so it becomes even more redundant.
I believe you are thinking of the Mormon (LDS) practice of "Baptism for the Dead". The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints have been practicing this "sacrament" for well over a hundred years, where devout, very practicing LDS will attend their temple and be baptized vicariously for the deceased. So understand that Mormons do not physically baptize corpses, a good Mormon will be baptized "in the name of" a deceased person and even then the Mormon church does not "count" them as a new member of the church. The LDS church simply keeps a record of who has been baptized vicariously so that no one else re-performs the baptism. The choice to become a member of the LDS church is then left into the hands (figurative) of the deceased. Since we can't communicate with the deceased, the LDS church has no way of knowing if they accepted the baptism and thus they don't "add" them to their records of membership and statistics.

I'm a Catholic and I've never heard of such a thing. People can't be baptized after death. That's a hard and fast rule of the Catholic Church.

>>Is this a common practise in the catholic faith?<<
Such nonsense is prohibited by the Catholic faith. Only someone who is both living and not yet baptized can be baptized.

That is not a common practice of the Catholic Church. That is a wrong statement, and it does not apply at all in our faith.

I am catholic and have never heard of this. I think the faith is becoming overrated....i mean just read the bible, be a good person, and go to church...its like the faith is becoming commercialized.

There's only one baptism to a customer ... and only while alive on earth.
The Catholic Church does nothing like what you describe.
You're probably confusing this with the illicit Mormon practice of baptizing dead guys, in the hope of populating their own little spirit worlds, someday..

i think you are referring to that news story about the LDS church. read the story again. it talks about how the LDS church has this thing where they baptize non-mormons who have died in hopes that they will accept their baptism into the LDS church so that they can pass to the other side as a mormon.

He would not need to be baptized again, unless he's done something extremely wrong.
