I do not oppose God, I oppose the human perception of God. It sounds so stupid to hear people say that GOD is great, GOD made everything, GOD loves us, GOD gave us Free Will, GOD is Perfect and then at the same token our planet is being pillage, people are at war, children & women are being abused every second of the day, etc. etc. The answer is always the same, you can't question GOD and Man is the problem not God, well sorry but I don't think this is good enough of an answer anymore so if it sounds like I am dissing him I am not, I am just not going to listen to someone tell me faith is all I need. Clearly we more than just Faith to go on right now.

It is important to know that Atheists do not oppose God at all, they simply don't believe in any kind of God. We try our best not to make Christians look bad, the main end-all goal is just to get people to be more rational and logical. I do admit the approach can sometimes be too harsh and offensive, however the postmodern atheist movement is at it's starting stages. It will be long before the secularists become more organized and feel less threatened by the public.

Which god do you think we oppose? Since you mention Christians, I assume you are one. I think the God of Abraham is no more real that Zeus. I don't oppose either of those mythical deities.
I do oppose the many "believers" who are attempting to legislate their beliefs and otherwise impose those beliefs on the society & culture I live in.
By the way, The Markster rocks. He deserves best answer.

Atheists don't oppose gods because gods don't exists as far as an Atheist is concerned. what Atheists oppose is the lurking snake of Theocracy that too often wraps it's coils around a free peoples and secular law becomes holy writ and a crime becomes a "sin". it's not gods that Atheists oppose ... it's religion enforced on the masses.

Maybe you can ask why Christians are making the rest of humanity looks bad by insisting there is a god and they have the true god, the rest are pagans. When you got the answer, it would be the same.

Atheists don't make Christians look bad. They pretty much do that all by themselves. There are mocking people on BOTH sides of the fence my dear. If people would stop pushing their beliefs on people in general, this world would be a more tolerable place. Once that idea is realized, these type of questions won't need to be asked.

First, I agree with John Galt.
Second, other than his answer, I see no logical answer to this question. If you are asking why non-believers oppose God, then you're technically asking why do we sin and this side of going through the entire Bible I say . . it was the first sin.
What you might ask is, as a believer is there anything I can do for those of you who do not believe.

Who would dis something that doesn't exist? Some Atheists do, I know, but they are hardly the majority or the ones you should be looking to as an example of Atheists. That's like us looking at Fred Phelps and deciding that he's what all Christians are like.

We don't believe in god. The only time an atheist might start dissing god is when an intolerant christian starts pushing religion on them.

I am not opposed to any deity, as that would be an amazing waste of energy opposing something that has no substance. I am opposed to the politics of many theists, and it is just that political position that makes most Christians look bad.
