I just recently quit drinking alcohol, which is a big deal because it was really making my family and friends worry, and also I was being hypocritical. I was telling young people not to drink and drive and I couldn't live up to that myself. So I want to get a tattoo about the Lord helping me defeat my personal demons.

congrats, I enjoy a cold beer every now and then, but I hope to have the courage to face it, if it ever becomes a problem. That being said, why don't you go and talk to a tattoo artist? Give them your story about your life change. Tell him about your favorite creatures, or symbols. Maybe they come up with a unique tat that you will totally love. Good luck..........

Hey rfyankees, Congrats to ya brother..... and I can't think of a better reason for a tattoo. Myself, I don't feel comfortable telling other people what I think they should have on their skin. I would suggest two things. One of them you are already doing....searching within yourself. The next thing you need to be doing is looking at tattoos......lots of them.....all categories.....all styles......different artists.......You are going to find things that you like and things you absolutely hate.... Eventually you will find an idea or concept that you like which will give you a starting place for designing a tattoo that fits YOUR personality and your own personal struggle. Rough out the idea you want in your head.....an artist will be able to sit down with your and sketch up and possibly improve upon it
here is a good place to start

I hope this helps

It's a group called straight edge. No drugs, alcohol or smoking. It was started when teens didn't have their own clubs and had to go to bars to listen to bands so they'd put X's on their hands to let the bar tender know not to serve them. There for, the tattoo for this group is either an X or group of X's or the words "straight edge" and of course the combination. I think that's great. You could talk to an artist about designing something to combine the two ideas. They would know best as to what would look good and where.
Here is some information about the group so that you can read the history: http://www.straightedge.com/whatissxe.html

You could always go literal and get words or something like "Never Again."

Brandon Novak got "No More F**king Heroin" across his lower stomach which is where I see the idea coming from.

The point is that if it means 'I quit drinking' to you, it doesn't have to make sense to anyone else.

Congrats Bro. I just celebrated 20 years of sobriety my self.

Maybe you could get a pic of something destroying a whisky bottle. If you are a Christian you could get Jesus or a sword doing that.

Just a thought and I'll be praying for you.
