Usually they are very similar (those 3 sites). Shop around, summer flights are expensive. I'd also recommend checking the airline's sites themselves. Usually the cheapest are British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Check every day until it gets low. I'd say for roundtrip economy to London from SF in the summer the cheapest you could get would be around $900. From NYC it'd be around $600-700. So wait for a sale and grab it.
Enjoy your trip. I was just in the UK/France for the second straight year and its a lot of fun :)

Actually, the best airfares are probably through the airline's website I fly a lot for work and book a lot of travel. I usually check expedia.com or orbitz.com and see which airline has the cheapest flights, then i go to that airline's website, and 99% of the time I get the exact same airfare. Plus those sites all charge a "booking fee" of $5 or more so it actually makes it more expensive. Plus some airlines guarantee that you will find the cheapest fares through their own website (I know American Airlines does this and probably most others). And it's also the most reliable to go through the source directly. None of the "low-fare" carriers go to Europe. (Not that they're the cheapest anyway, I always find JetBlue pretty expensive).

This question gets asked about 10 times a day. One of those times someone answered with www.kayak.com. So I checked it out. They go to all the other travel sites you mentioned, plus the airlines themselves. They list all the fares from all the sites. I've been using them ever since.

no longer all airways prepare to all circumstances. no longer all commute sellers are ideal on all routes. Edit your question to operate the position you'll commute from, the position you pick to flow, and once you pick to commute, and also you'll get a lot extra perfect solutions.
