There is an important thing to keep in mind when considering a formally atheist nation. These dictators are concerned about one thing and one thing only - power. They don't care what you believe about God, all they care about is that they have absolute rule. Religion poses a threat, or competition to their absolute power. This is the only reason dictators ever care about religion. In fact, many of them want you to worship them as god. This is clearly not atheism.
Point being it's about competition for power, not any religious beliefs or feeling toward philosophy.

Communists are not atheists. The State merely replaces God. And the Party Line is the Word of God. It cannot be questioned.
Atheists will be among the first "useful idiots," eliminated when the "revolution" occurs.

You got it all wrong, pall. I lived in a communist country until I was 18 and we were allowed to go to the church. Let's not forget that the center of the orthodox-ism (Christians, yes, but not Catholics) was in USSR. Are you talking about a Christian...China? Well, I guess that you need to read more or change it to Discovery from time to time.

How many Christians does it take kill 6 million jews and 6 million gypsies, 1 right?Hitler was a Christian, don't start with the "oh he wasn't a REAL christian bull, on that basis none of you are real christians. How many Muslim leaders does it take to oppress the people ? How many Christian African nations oppress their people?
Theocracies restrict freedom just as much as the ATHEIST communist countries you speak of. You speak against "God" and we jail you. You're not being Christian/Muslim,etc enough? We jail you.
Are you trying to infer that being an atheist means you'll take away people's freedom? Your religion takes your freedom away without you even seeing it happen.If you're in America, you still have freedom, NOT because you believe in a "God," but because of our constitution NUT JOBS like you have the freedom to rant.
The people that deal injustice, and happen to be atheist want to get rid of religion to preserve their own power, since religion threatens it, kind of like how the Christian Right in America want to replace our constitution with the bible, it may sound good to you, but you probably wouldn't like it if it actually took effect. You sound like a typical hypocrite.

Yes, initially the Communist party stated that the Communist
party didn't believe in God. In some countries, they tried
to dictate relgious behavior when they thought it interfered
with the state ... and Stalinists used it as a weapon to
control people.
However, there are lots of communists leaders who are privately
religious, and the vast vast majority of the population of, say
China is religious.
Now, I agree it would be bad to supress religion, but you make
it sound like supressing it in favor of atheism is worse than supressing
it for any other variant.
More ill has been done in the name of religion than in the name
of atheism. I'm not saying that religion itself is bad, but it can be
misused immensely ... and has been.
Take a realistic view of the current Communist countries, and
you'll discover that religion is NEVER the issue. Its a non-starter.
