Hi,

I finally got my hair to the length I wanted it over 5 years. I had a perm for the last year and today I finally got it straightened (reverse perm) to get all the curls/wavyness out of it. Well the stylist I went to (highly recommended) over processed my hair. She left the chemicals on for 40 minutes and I asked her after 25 minutes if it was long enough and she said no. Well, my hair feels so dry, brittle and sticky (crudy).. I am so afraid that I am going to lose it after taking over 5 years to get it to the length I always wanted it to be.

Can anyone please help me on saving my hair? My hair has always known to dry easily, etc.

A perm, and a reverse perm are very very damaging, especially the ends of your hair. If they are very frizzy have them trimmed and purchase a moisturising treatment. Osmo, Essence, (intensive deep repair mask) would be good, ask your stylist, one of the ingredients should be a protein, hydrolysed. The moisture and protein need to be replaced in your hair. Do not have any chemical services for quite awhile. Did you go back to the salon to complain? They should have arranged for you to have a perm check to see if you were satisfied and maintain your style. If you are not happy and your hair feel very rough, dry, brittle, breaking you need to go back and tell them. If you leave it then they think it is ok to over process hair over and over again. You have to be responsible, but so must they. Use the mask a few times a week, and you will see a big difference. Vitamin B is great for healthy hair. Keep the ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks, I know you think "oh no, cut my hair", but I assure you it will help it, but find a stylist who will only cut how much you tell her, when you find a good stylist, stick with her like glue. Hope this help honey. X

I would recommend you go to the chemist and get a bottle of olive oil they sell it for medicinal purposes, ive seen this happen before and you are very lucky your hair hasnt come out, put the oil all over it will help your scalp too and get a plastic cap if you have one and leave it on over night again if you can. the less you mess combing and fiddling with it the better over the next few weeks as it will obviously add more damage. I know people will recommend you go back to the salon and complain which would be a good thing but if they offer you a conditioning treatment which is what they probaly will, they wont be as careful with your fragile hair as you would be, leave your hair to dry naturally when washed, then give it a month doing the oil treatments once a week and get a light trim on it,
This scenario can happen with coloured hair that tackyness feeling on the hair - you seriously need the oil back in your hair.
Hope this helps

i had a similar incident involving half the hair on my head being burned and dyed orange when i got some foils. Alot of the hair broke, it wouldn't sit flat and it felt like it was made of plastic. It was so bad my hairdresser cried.
I contemplated chopping it off, but in the end i was just really carefull with it, and was able to grow it out.
*Don't blow dry or straighten it
*Don't dye or bleach it (except for gentle semi-permanet rinses, like LIVE colour, which actually condition your hair, feel free to use them)
*Don't brush it when it's wet
*Use a deep conditioning treatment (buy one from the hairdresser, or better yet, go back in, kick up a fuss and cry a bit, and they really should give you some. My hairdresser did after she killed mine)
*Use a moisturising styling product to keep it from fluffing out.

But this was the thing that really helped me:
*When you condition, leave it in for as long as possible, and gently massage and comb it through with your fingers or a big wide toothed comb, but very gently! This really helps 'smooth' the hair out.

Apart from that, there isn't much you can really do.
good luck, i feel your pain.

Hmm. I know this sounds gross, but if you use essential oils in your hair and massage it into your scalp, it strengthens it. Also, watch what shampoos you use. Don't use one with too many chemicals. You might want to use the pantene sprays and products that fix damaged hair. Also, John Frieda and Garnier are good brands. Don't wash ur hair too often either. This will just split it even more. Recommended: thick hair-->every 2 days
fine hair-->every other day.

try using a product called 'hsuan wen hua' from Lush. its a pre treatment hair moisturiser. put it on dry hair and leave it on as long as you can, then wash it out and condition with a moisturising conditioner. It saved my hair as to be honest I really mistreated it. (bottle blonde and can't live without my ghd's) at just under £6 for a tub it's quite expensive but you should get at least 3 uses out of it. I reasoned if it works it's worth the cost.

hope this helps xx

dont wash your hair everyday..and if your like me that needs to..just condition it..instead of shampooing it...and let it sit on your hair while you wash your body and your face and wutever else you do in the shower! rinsing it out should be the last thing you do..and buy a leave in conditioner and apply it after your shower and comb it threw..dont use a flat iron or hairdryer and dont put any type of heat to your hair..cuz that will make it more brittle and dryer..i also reccomend that you buy some type of oil for your hair..but dont put too much in b/c your hair will be a grease ball..and in the 5 years you grew your hair im not sure if you got your hair trimmed or not but i also think you should get some of those ends off..and if you think that stylist really ruined your hair you can possibly bring her to court..b/c us hair stylist have a license for a reason...also dont put nemore chemicals in your hair..but what i do reccomend is getting a gloss done..i hope this helps you! good luck!!

Redken's All Soft range has avocado oil in it and it makes really dry and split hair feel great! why not look on ebay and see if you can get some for a reduced price- or even a sample size so you can try it before you buy the full size?

First thing you should do is go back to the salon and complain to the manager and tell them to put right the damage done. If they refuse, tell them you will contact your local authority (trading standards). Contact the federation of hairdressers and ask their advice. I think your hair needs expert help now, I really don't think shop bought treatments are going to make much of an impact.
Don't despair, someone out there may be able to help you.

Use Redken's All Soft. This is the BEST shampoo for dry hair. It works sooooo good. Also don't wash your hair everyday. This allows the hairs natural oils to help it from drying out further.
