A friend of mine is in dire need of mental help. Therapy. Something. Anything. Constantly morbidly depressed and miserable. They have no insurance and cant afford to see anyone. Are there any programs for something like this?

Yes, every state has free/sliding-scale mental health clinics. They are usually not listed where you can easily find them, so it's best to call the emergency room or the police department to get the location and/or phone number of the one nearest you.

No one needs to suffer with depression, anxiety, or any other mental health problem. There is help out there, you just need to make the calls to find it.

Well I myself suffer from bipolar, Here in california has a wonderful health plan, I dont know what its like in NJ, but anyways when I was In one of my melt down, I had to go to the J ward, It was sort of a mental rehab, check out your local hospital for help. Go to the local welfare office, since youre low income, and get some public assistance with medical care, Im sure it couldnt hurt. Good luck.

Check with your local health department-usually through City or County. If they can't help the person there, they will know places the person can be referred to. Our county has a Mental Health Services Facility and they help people with no money, not a lot of money and those with insurance. Make a call to your own doctors' office. They can answer your question as well.

Try having your friend check out the Dept. of Behavioral Health, or
Mental Health.
They have programs and funding specifically made for people who need help, but don't have insurance or money. That's how I am getting the help I need!

Ask at your local city/county Mental Health Department. There have very qualified and good therapists there (usually). I tried to get my daughter in to see one and they wouldn't see her because we have insurance. They said since we have insurance, they would have to charge us $120.00 an hour to see one of their psychologists. For once, it made me wish we didn't have insurance! Anyway, either it's at a very reduced rate for people like your friend, or it's free.

Welfare, but your friend is going to have to want to get the help. They can help w/ recent medical bills, so contact the local welfare office and ask about their policy on bills, then have your friend go for the help and take the bills to the welfare office. Good luck!

I know medicaid or medicare will cover it. Go talk to your local doctor or foodstamp office. My sister is on medicaid and it covers all her mental medical visits and hospital stays and medication.
