If I am to go tanning, cover my tattoos up with paper or something would that be okay to go tanning? Or what could I use? Im not worried about the tan lines. I can fix those later.

sunscreen, at least spf 50, and keep applying it as soon as you feel it dissapearing. Dont tan until your tattoo is completely healed however. Your healing skin is more sensitive to sun damage at this time, it will fade your colours and can also irreparably damage your skin cells.

I think the highest SPF is only like 25. Any number above that is ridiculous.
My suggestion would be, be extra cautious. I think its amazing that you're taking your tattoos in mind when tanning. Lots of people just leave them in the open and let them fade.
I think a good idea would be sunscreeen and a piece of paper. That way if anythings getting through the paper, its not going to get past the sunscreen too.

I don't spend a lot of time in the sun as I am very fair skinned and burn quite easily (especially with our lovely hot summers here in Australia) but on the odd occasion that I do I use good old Aussie zinc cream to cover my tattoos. I use spf 30+ on the rest of me and zinc on the tatts. Makes for an interesting look but they are still in great condition.

I put a total sun block, preferably the type for the face. I apply it with a qtip only on the tattoo.
I had to do this for many years, because the red in my tattoo would peel and itch when exposed to the sun. I finally stoped after about 10 years.

Keep the color by using the qtip and heavy # sun block.

Use a strong sunblock on your tats. You should use at least a 15 SPF all over your body though. But 30+ on your tats will protect them and wont give you as bad of a tanline I'm sure. Bullfrog is a good one for tattoos.

argh...are you trying to get cancer? tanning is going to do just that it also give you wrinkles...eww...and uneven skin tones and all sorts of bad things rather than just not tanning
