My inlaws anniversary is this weekend. They are both in their 80's, not very active, don't like 'stuff', but do eat out alot. We are taking them to a nice dinner but would like to get them a gift also. No pets, live in a patio home, can drive.

I would get them music from the era when they were married. Even though they are not active now, they would probably like to listen and remember when they were young and did dance! Plus CDs do not take up very much space.

If you don't want to give a gift certificate, you could so something like order a gourmet meal to their home.

CONGRATS to them!

Since they don't like "stuff"...I know what you mean, I hate having a house full of useless junk...then I would suggest your dinner out idea, but kick it up a notch?

How about dinner out with a limo pick up/drop off? Do you live someplace where there may be dinner and a show close enough to go?

I don't have enough info to suggest a more personal gift, but think of what they like to do, and try to give them a "memory" rather than a tangible item. If you want to be more practical...do they need any work done around their home? How about a DIY store gift card, or if they are not into doing it themselves, a handyman (or maid) for a day...week...whatever ($$$) you want to give.

Rememer, a good gift is something the person wants, but doesn't want to buy themselves.

Anyway, hope that helps! Good luck!!!

They would probably appreciate a few gift certificates to their local Grocery Store and Pharmacy, possibly to use for prescriptions? How about a couple of nice lap quilts, or you could put together a basket with some movies or coupons to rent some movies and some favorite snacks and some instant drink mixes. You could also make up a "coupon booklet" with chores or favors you would do for them or with them, you know anything that they would love to have done or something they would enjoy doing with you, then follow up on each of them, and you could include other members of the family and have them make up their own to give to you to put in the booklet. Hope these ideas help a little. Congratulations to Your In-Laws that's quite an accomplishment today!

Wow, congrats to them.
They would most likely want you to spend the money for yourselves, as they have everything they need, right ????
Dinner out sounds just fine.
Maybe a hand made token you and family can contribute to, even if a nice card; each can say special somethings.
Believe me they will value true generosity of spirit much more than monetary excess.
Maybe the family or the two of you can make up an IOU booklet.
eg each page has an act of goodwill such as a neck rub, lawns mown, 1 hour of gardening, morning tea on the patio (with best china!), a drive to the old pub in the country with great lamb shanks. You nosh it out and pick things according to their memories and personal tastes. Just make sure it involves you doing something FOR and WITH them.
I would love to get an IOU such as this.

My favorite gift for couples is a photo dvd. You can make one yourself if you have time or order one online. I make these dvd's for all occasions. Your inlaws would love it. If you have any questions or need help you can check out my website at

www.advd2remember.com

Send me an e-mail and I will try to help you create one. If you have a program...it's fun to learn how to do. If you want to see more example search "photo montage" in yahoo.
Good luck. I hope you find something special,
Jennifer

I love the idea of a family picture. What about an "invitation" to be at the photographers studio at a specific time, and coordinate your other family members to be there too, a great gift for them, and for the whole family to have a copy also.

60 years is a very big deal but I bet they have everything they want or need by now so maybe something poetic like a star named for them. There is a web site that tells you how to go about buying and naming a star for someone but I can't remember the name of it.

If you want something a little more "down to earth"....gift certificates to their favorite restaurants would be nice.

The Traditional 60th anniversary present is Diamond.

Depending on your budget, you could get diamond cuff-links for him and a diamond necklace/bracelet or earrings for her. Or perhaps a diamond accented/personalized or diamond shaped picture frame.

Use any search engine to look for "60th anniversary present"

If you can get your hands on it try finding a photo of them on their wedding day and get a really nice frame and have the photo blown up and put in the frame. Or a memory book of the two of them from over the years..

Perhaps get them gift cards to several restaurants since they love to eat out. Or maybe for a wine tasting?
