God listens. Even when you are NOT talking to Him. You can't lose either way.

Absolutely not. Prayer is talking to God. Just because He doesn't immediately answer in a form that you can understand, doesn't mean He isn't listening. God answers prayers in three ways: yes, no, or wait. To keep your prayer real, address God more than once. Another tip would be to use the acronym for PRAY. P=praise
R=repent
A=ask
Y=yield.
Here's an example:
Dear God,
You are so good. You are so amazing. If it weren't for you, I would not exist. You have given me so much that I am so thankful for.
I am so unworthy of your love. I sin every day and I am so sorry. I will honestly and obediently try hard no keep from rpeating the sins I will now confess to you. Please forgive me.
I ask you to be with so and so and bles so and so. Help me to do this and whatever it is that you need help with.
Now, good and gracious Lord, I will yield to you and your perfect love. I will willingly allow you to come into my life and take over. I want to be a servant of the King of Kings.
Amen

It isn't a one way street in my experience. I can "feel" God hearing me. Sometimes more than others. I also often get answers very immediately to my prayers, and when I don't, I know that they have been heard and God will work His own will, which of course is always perfect. And when I don't feel His presence during prayers, I then rely on His word, which says that He does hear me. I do not have to have any kind of emotion to convince me God is there, since I stand on his word, not my feelings.

But in answering your question, there is a very sweet communion when I pray to God.

It's all about faith. You either believe or you don't. God listens to every one of us, whether we pray or not. He can read our minds. Maybe God does not answer all our prayers because he wants us to do things for ourselves. He wants us to learn and become better people.

Umm....realistic? No! lol Have you read some of the answers on here? I talk to myself all the time. I don't care if some deity is listening. He's no genie. He's not gonna help me anyway. I think praying is more like venting. I don't pray, I vent. If I can't vent, I hit and I don't want to break my hand so, talking to myself will have to do for now.

I think that once you develop a close relationship with a deity, you CAN hear them talk back. People just don't talk about it because it's very personal and not that acceptable in our culture.

I hear the Goddess speaking to me when I pray and meditate. There are people here who will think that means I have a mental illness, but whatever.

I do both and I know the difference. Yes, God does answer prayer.

u shld realise that god exists nowhere else but in the hearts of those who believe in him.. so when u ask him something he answers from inside that's why u feel like talkin to urself..god is not just another person for u to be able to see him. god is beyond the reach of our eyes . so search for him inside not outside..

People think there's no one there because it echoes back to them. But they should realize that it is because they too are God.

well..I was raised Catholic, but have found meditation (no words.. focus on breathing) is much more effective in trying my hardest to understand the big picture....
