Congradulations!!! How Wonderful!!!!!!!!! A formal Dance sounds wonderful!!! Since you asked for hair advice I am gonna give it to you. Liven things up by going blonde. The blonde hair and the black dress will have an interesting contrast. I reccomend coloring your hair a light Blonde. Explore the loreal feria blonde collection. I personally recommend using the Loreal feria #110 Startlet a very light Beige Blonde that's never brassy. After you have colored your hair use a leave in conditioner as well as mayonaise on your hair before you will style it. This is crucial because mayonaise and leave in conditioner add essential nutrients to your hair. After the mayo rinse your hair off. Apply the conditioner now its time to style. Straighten your hair by using a quality curling iron. After straightening it just add some curls with the iron for some extra waves. Trust me wavy blonde hair and the black dress will look sensational. Just as a note if you live in the Los Angeles Area and you want to learn how to dance with ease. Contact the Santa Monica John Cassese Dance Doctor the number is 310-459-2264 call John and he will help you. Just call for the directions. If you want to have a great dance experience trust me you gotta do the lessons. See you have got more than you bargained for. You will look fab and glam!Take Care

The best style for a dress like that is sleek backin a lower bun with a side fringe. Then it will bring attention to the dress. If your dress is simple you can add something in your hair, like a diamond clip. It will be stunning. :)
Have fun!
