I was recently diagnosed with an ovarian cyst that has been causing a lot of pain, and my doctor put me on Tramadol. It doesn't help the pain completely, but just makes me really spaced out. It also gives me awful headaches. I was wondering if anybody knows if I can take headache medication while I'm on the Tramadol. I need to stay on the Tramadol because the only dosage of non-prescription painkillers that would help would be about 5 pills every few hours, and I don't want to do that. So yes...any doctors or nurses out there that have any suggestions?

Since nobody answered your question for you yet I'll do it. The trigger point therapy was a good suggestion but that's not what you asked, right? Assuming you aren't allergic or have kidney/liver problems it is okay to take a few tylenol or motrin for a headache. Take it as directed on the bottle, just like you do with your Ultram(tramadol). No alcohol. As usual consult your doctor if there are any problems/concerns and tell the doc at your next appointment anyway just so he/she knows you are having headaches. Always tell your doctor if you begin or stop any meds. Other than that you'll be fine. Sorry about the cyst, I had a problem with that a few years back. I switched birth control pills and it went away completely. No more pain meds and anti-inflammatories- YAY!!! Good luck

Headaches - this one might be an exception but in general - they are caused by the muscles being tight combined with a lack of magnesium potassium and water.
Water - Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil, runs rough and can seize up.
Molasses (or bananas) contain the magnesium and potassium that the body is screaming for.
Muscles, Pain and Refferred Pain - the short answer is read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
More immediately have a friend or professional give you a massage - mid to upper back, shoulders including around the collar bones, neck especially around the back at the base of the skull (press in and up hold to the count of three - do this 3-6 times). YOU lightly rub anywhere on your head especially where hair would grow there will be many places you would not have expected to be sore. these are trigger points rub over them 6-12 times up to 6 times a day until they loosen up
