He most likely was thinking he was being funny. I joke around with people at work all the time so they know not to take me serious when they ask me if I can do something and I tell them no. Don't take it seriously.

He was avoiding answering you. He said maybe, and then suggested you take a different route.

Perhaps he doesn't feel comfortable giving you a ride. You said "he flirts with me so I thought he would take me home". Are you sure you're reading this right? It might be just a little presumptuous to think that you should be able to expect a ride home from someone, just because they flirt with you.

He might be thinking that you only asked for a ride as an excuse to spend time with him. Maybe he thinks it's you doing the flirting, and he's really not that interested.

no he wasn't i say that all the time to ppl.(just to the ones who disrespect my rules and my car!) i usual say no in the winter mostly if it is snowing if i get into accident i just want it to be me hurt instead of someone else. maybe he had stuff to do after work or want to do something with out having to take u home first. there could have been many reasons behind it. if u want to know the real answer then just ask him the next time you see him.

He probably wasn't trying to be rude, but the end result was rudeness none the less. Let him know that ambiguous, assinine answers make you annoyed when you're asking him a serious question.

He might not mean to be rude. He was just being casual about it. or maybe he tried to turn it into a joke but it didn't work out.
