hmmm... how do you understand "water"? I have the memory of this amazing story in my mind... a Zen student so loved his master... one day he was saying over and over in his head how much he loved his mater that he began to walk on the water he was wading in. The master upon hearing this thought he could do this also so he went down to the water and told himself over and over that he loved himself and drowned! Do you think that answers your question and sunman's?

the one I AM: Having "no self" to weigh one down?

I'm thinking about this.

In most cultures water represents things like femininity, subconscious, night, and [spiritual] darkness. It is fluid and passive. Fire is all the opposites. Fire is masculinity, day, spiritual light, passion, and action. Sometimes water is sadness and fire is anger.

I doubt any of this applies to the Bible seeing as followers would knock all this off as superstition, but I suppose walking on water could mean conquering all of the water properties mentioned above.

In classic Pagan belief, water represents the soul and emotions. Fire represents passion, strength and the will.

Before you balk at the word "Pagan," remember that in Jesus' time pretty much everyone was Jewish or Pagan. "Pagan" does not have the scary meaning that the Christians like to give it.

Don't listen to these people. It is logically and scientifically impossible for the Bible to be completely true without "interpretation" of some parts, and your interpretation of its mythic symbols is no more or less valid than anyone else's!!

H2O = 2 hydrogen atoms + a single oxygen atom. Walking on water is easy, just lower the temperature below 0 C.

Mythologically, it's a meaningless conjuring trick that conveniently leaves no permanent evidence of a "miracle", and can be accepted on the basis of hearsay by the credulous.

How about authority on The word? Faith over matter? The Creator showing off over His creation?............ The washing of water by The Word and The baptism of fire(going through trials and coming out unscathed), and Cloven tongues of fire(gift of tongues). And The cleansing fire of The Holy Spirit! And Yeshua Ha Messiach(Jesus The Christ) has power in,over, and through them all!!!

symbolic properties? ah, water is water and the only two who have ever walked on it when it was in its liquid state are Peter and Jesus. many folks from Wisconsin, however, are able to walk on water 4-6 months out of the year and its symbolic property is frozen.

Fire? Are you out of your mind?

Just like some christians like to use the three forms of water to demonstrate the meaning of their triune god, anyone can walk on water if it is ice.

Jesus when walking on the water should have sank according to science. There was nothing there to hold Him up,nor was anything there to hold Peter up.What this showed us was that we can put the world under our feet when we look to Christ. When we look at the storm around us we lose faith and sink.We need to stay focused on Jesus.
