history of drugs. We can smell a horrible ordor kind of like a septic system or sewage. It happens only late at night. My question, can it cause damage for us to breath it. And also if their house blows up, will it effect us. We are about 200 yards from them. I will not turn them for fear they will know it was us and cause us harm. Please help. I am very concerned about our safety.

Meth labs don't smell like sewage. They have a strong chemical smell similar to ether. Once you smell a lab, you know exactly what it is from then on.

Clara, Ma'am,

While I can understand your concern with your safety, and certainly understand the concerns about your health, I want to run something by you and then you may make an informed decision. The oders you speak of are generally not associated with a meth lab however, it doesn't mean that there aren't some potentially hazardous fumes comeing from rotting garbage or a mixture of household garbage and chemicles. My advise would be to call code compliance first instead of the authorities that way if anything comes out of it, like they find a meth lab, and someone starts asking questions all you have to say is you were only concerned with the question of hazardous fumes because of your health. You get where I'm going here?. While you are free to call in your concerns, you certainly shouldn't be harassed about it, I mean, you have as much right to live in a safe and Unpolluted environment as the next Tax Paying Citizen!!. I do hope this helps and in the mean time, I shall keep you in my prayers. Oh, and feel free to E-Mail me and let me know how things turned out, or if I may be of assistance, as I have an extensive knowledge of the law, and may be able to help you further. In the mean time, GOD BLESS/GOOD LUCK!!

Here it is straight from the horses mouth. I have worked and processed enough meth labs to make mosts heads spin. Our agency led the state for two years in a row, and our state led the nation for three years in a row for meth labs. Been there done that.
By what you are describing, to me it is most likely an anhydrous ammonia lab, or a"Nazi" lab. Every freakin cook I have dealt with almost always does there burns at night hoping that the neighbors will be asleep and not notice the smell too much. Anhydours Ammonia is a very noxious odor that has a very strong urine smell to it. At a distance from the cook, and especially at night the ammonia will settle along the ground as it is heavier than air and will travel in clusters of the gas. Meaning you came smell it really strong at one moment, then it is gone, and you smell a little while later.
Yes anhydrous is very hazardous to your health, it can cause irritation to mucous membranes, respirtory distress, and damage your sense of smell.
Your best bet is to call your area drug task force or narcotics unit and provide them the info. Inner department lines generally dont have caller id. Tell them you want to remain anonymous, and don't provide a name. Give them all the information that you know.
Call in from time to time, like once a week or every other week to see if they have done anything yet.
The also understand the nature of cooks. They are as addicted to the cooking process as they are the drug. I have caught the same people doing burns non-stop. I remember on guy that had got caught with 14 labs by the time we could get the court to issue warrants on him. Then when he finally posted his bond we got him with 3 more. Just saying so you realize that even if they get raided it most likely will not stop them for long.
If I was in your shoes I would put big signs in my drive where they could see them that said "My Neighbor is a Meth Cook". I would then sue them in civil court for expose me to hazardous materials...and provide the cops free donuts and coffee to hang out by their house and harass them.

I report them so fast that it would make you dizzy. We don't have that kind of neighborhood. On the other hand, I really like my existing neighbors. Say Mr. and Mrs. S, the kindly and elderly people living north of me, had to turn to churning out meth because the evil Republicans had cut their benefits and they couldn't survive on social security anymore, I wouldn't report them. Not only are they unlikely to blow up my house since they're across the street but they were FORCED to become a meth lab when their benefits were cut and they're too old to do other kinds of work. They're sweet old people. I couldn't report them even if they were eating Jehovah Witnesses and quoting Hannibal the Cannibal. They're good to me and mine. I could never rat them out.

You seriously just need to call the local authorities...not only is it hazardous to breath, but if something were to happen that caused an explosion, then it would be so much worse. Just tell your law enforcement what you are smelling and they will immediately know what you are talking about. You have a right to a safe living environment and not be put in danger my some stupid druggees next door.

If you are being exposed to the results of a meth lab, they are already causing you and your family harm. 1 pound of meth makes 6 pounds of toxic waste. These guys don't care where they dump the crap. Contact your local police agency and ask for assistance. You can remain anonymous. Educate yourself on the process and learn to recognize what the waste looks like and avoid it like it were the plague!!

I would call the Police warn them about the situation. Meth is dangerous and can cause serious problems. Tell the police about how it happens only at night they will look into it. Better safe than sorry

i would be way more concerned if there was evidence that your neighbors were testing their product. as long as they're sober im sure it's fine, but if they start tweakin, that's when the explosions happen. Besides, if you are afraid of them hurting you because you turned them in, it might not be very safe to go around talking about it online, and finally, if you're willing to tell everyone with a yahoo account, just balls up and call the po-9

I would be concerned too. Does your town have an anonymous crime stoppers tip line? Surely, they know other people who also know about their meth lab. Clients, friends, family, etc. Just keep claiming ignorance, and let the police figure it out.

lid rather you call the police and tell them this story than do nothing, a lab is very dangerous and could explode at any time. they can protect you. and its better than having a lab exploding in your neighborhood. and if it turns out not to be a lab, then you can still get that oder taken care of.
