The main purpose of chemotherapy is to kill cancer cells. It can be used as the primary form of treatment or as a supplement to other treatments. Chemotherapy is often used to treat patients with cancer that has spread from the place in the body where it started (metastasized), but it may also be used the keep cancer from coming back (adjuvant therapy). Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells anywhere in the body. It even kills cells that have broken off from the main tumor and traveled through the blood or lymph systems to other parts of the body. It also kills the fast multiplying cells. The cells under hair roots are typically fast multiplying. So when hair start falling all the hair including private parts, armpit, eyelashes and eye brow fall. A few chemotheraphy drugs does not cause hair loss.-

See first of all let us understand the concept and working of the chemotherapy. Since cancer is a rapidly multiplying cell these medicines are targetted to attack and kill all rapidly multiplying cells and leave alone slow multiplying cells. This way most of the body cells are left unharmed by the chemo drugs but unfortunately some of our own required cell viz. WBC, RBC, the hair folicle cells are some of the cell which also multiply rapidly and hence even this cells also get killed during chemo. However one should note that all the hair in our body does not have the rapidly growing property for example the eyebrows are very slow growing cells whereas the hair on the head , the beard etc are rapidly growing ones and hence during chemo hair from every part of the body except the eye brows and eye lashes will fall off and it is very rare to see eye brows also falling off. However one good news is that all the hair will again start growing immediately after the chemo is over and therefore the disfigurement is only a temporary one and within six months after the chemo the person will have hair grown again and also more than what he /she had previously.

It is possible, yes, to lose your pubic hair during chemotherapy. There are different types of chemotherapy, some that cause hair loss, and some that don't. The type of chemotherapy you receive is determined by the type of cancer that you have so you can't just ask for one that does not cause hair loss. The hair loss that is expected is total - head, eyebrows, eyelashes, body hair and pubic hair. But not all people lose all their hair since everyone reacts differently to their treatment. After treatment, the hair does return. And, the hair on your head may come back a different color and maybe be straight if you had curly hair before, or curly if you had straight hair before. So it can be a bit of a surprise.

Yes it is possible depending on the chemicals used. They do come back though within a couple of months of the chemo stopping.

It's a fair question and the answer is it depends on the specific chemotherapy. Some do kill the hair follicles and some do not.

It depends on what kind of chemo it is. For example there are two different kinds of chemotherapy for breast cancer and one of them you loose all your hair, while on the other treatment you don't. It all depends on the chemicals.
