None of my DVDs will play in my DVD player anymore. When i insert a movie, the little screen says "loading" over and over and makes a funny sound like it's trying to play it but never comes up. What happened? How do i fix it? I don't want to buy a new one!

I have had problems with Philips DVD players that I have bought from Wal-Mart. I got the same message where it says disc loading and then after a minute or so it says no disc, even on discs in good shape. I tried cleaning the DVD, DVD holder on the machine, and could not get it to work. I ended up replacing it twice and after a few months the same thing would happen. The Philips DVD player I have now did the same thing. I spent time playing around with it and it still would not work. I got annoyed so I hit the top of the machine a few times and much to my suprise it read the DVD. Now every few times after it works it starts with the no disc nonsense. It takes a little time but I bang on the top of the DVD sometimes pretty hard, one time a neighbor thought I was knocking on their apartment and asked "Who's there?". I think it has to do with knocking dust off of the laser reader. So far it has worked for several months, I never had this many problems with VCRs.

It either needs a lens cleaner or a lens replacement (which would cost 1/3rd of the dvd player cost). Lens cleaners are a must.

Before cleaning the inside of the player, be sure that the DVD disk is compatible with the regional setting of your player.

Try opening it up, look for anything strange. It is probably your hardware that malfunctioned. I can't really help without a better diagnosis.
