The older I get, the more depressed I get. I am 27 and feel like my best years have passed already. I had a really good, stable, childhood with a lot of friends and good times growing up. I was happy. Now I just can't seem to stop feeling so down all the time. For the last 3-4 years I have had extremely low self esteem. I obsess over my appearence. Sometimes I feel like the ugliest person on earth. Other times I think I was being silly. Death crosses my mind everyday now. Not always my own death in particular, but the death of family/friends. I can't stop myself from thinking about it. What if I die tomorrow, will anyone have anything good to say about me? What if one of my parents die how will I go on without them? I feel that I will never be as happy as I used to be because things have changed. Is this typical or depression? I try to keep these feelings away but it has caused me to have a panic attack once and last month I cried uncontrollably which has never happened until then..

Sounds very much like depression... (Trust me, I've had the honor of personal experience.)
So what you need now is a professional. You will not necessarily be put on medication, so don't let that thought frighten you. You need a knowledgeable, impartial person to tell your concerns to. I'm sure you will get lots of encouraging messages here, and that's a good thing. Even people who don't really know you have kind thoughts for you and want to help you. But you really need one trained professional to help you look thoroughly at the source(s) of your problem.
Best wishes for your recovery.

You're not alone there. Ya, you're depressed and scared and unhappy about life and it's about the right time in life when most people have those thoughts. I'm twenty eight and mine started at about twenty five. It's much better now, but the way life feels is different. Don't worry about what other people think and use it as a reason to beat yourself up. Concentrate on what you think about yourself and picture where you'd like to be and what you'd like to be doing. Try for your ideal life by setting some realistic goals that you can do easily at first and then move them higher so they may take longer but mean more. You've got to feel like you can count on yourself again and that you like who you are and what you're made of. Nobody else knows what it's like to be you and deal with what you've got to deal with so don't put stock into what anybody says to you unless it's somebody who knows and loves you. Talk to your mom or dad if your comfortable and tell them you're worried that without them you'd be lost, etc. Usually they'll have things to say that will make you feel better about the natural progression of life. Chances are, they felt that way too once or twice about their own parents. It's okay to feel like that sometimes but always remember that life is short and you should be using it to be and do what you've always wanted. Sometimes goals get changed and altered from when you're younger but you don't need to give up your dreams.
take care.

Depression. I have depression and am (supposed) to be taking medication and seeing a phychiatrist. THose were the symptoms i experienced and it wasn't until i started self harming i was forced to do something about it. You should go see a doctor, and know that death isn't the answer. Medication and speaking to a professional WILL help you feel better! it will be a good move!

Blue Moon, you need to get motivated and get those feelings out of your head. Being depressed once in a while for a short period of time is ok, I believe, but you are thinking about bad stuff all the time. Get a nice hobby and go out with your friends more and have fun. Life is to short to think about death. If you can't get those thoughts out of your mind, go and talk to your Doctor, he might be able to help you.
You are not ugly and life is beautiful. Enjoy every minute of it.

yeah it's depression and you could either go out and get prozac which would do no good (and if you do want prozac you might as well just go for weed because weed is much more fun), or you could actually work through it by coming to terms with the fact that yeah your prime is probably over, but you have the choice to either live the **** out of life or kill yourself (i suggest the former)
