okay heres the deal, my windows media player 11 works great except when it comes to dvds. it plays video, but no sound. i mean when i play video thats not a dvd, it plays both audio and video. i dont no whats goin on, is windows media player bad? also, my sound card is Realtek Avrac AC '97. and whats the deal with these codecs things? please help, im desperate. all helpful answers will be appreciated... :-D -peace

The deal with the codec things is that they are basically a set of instructions for whatever media player in deciphering (COde DECode) audio and video. If you are missing audio on DVDs, typically, you are missing the necessary codec. In order to remedy this, you need to download the correct codec. It used to be that Windows Media Player would recognize missing codecs and would alert you to download the correct/missing one(s). That no longer appears to be the case. Anyway, if you download "K-Lite codec" pack, this will likely fix your problem. It's free both monetarily speaking and of spy/adware. The link is below. Good luck.
