Proponents of the global warming theory point to scientific studies suggesting that average temperatures around the globe are rising at faster rates than ever before as proof that humans are causing climate change. They claim that even modest increases in temperature will cause more severe weather, melt polar ice caps, disrupt agricultural practices around the world, and spread diseases. They feel that action must be taken to reduce the impact human beings have on the Earth's climate.

Opponents of the global warming theory argue that there is inconclusive evidence that temperatures are rising at all, let alone that human activities are causing any change. They state that previous Ice Ages demonstrate that the Earth's climate naturally shifts and note that there is no scientific evidence that efforts like the Kyoto Protocol will have any effect on the world's climate. These people view claims of global warming as sounding a false alarm and attempts to curb social and economic development.

I think global warming is a natural thing...earth probably had a global warming before. However, I believe that humans are causing global warming to come sooner by further depleting the ozone layer. That's my opinion.

While the media is convinced man is the cause of global warming there is evidence that the earth goes thru cycles of heating and cooling. Most of the last million years ice covered much of the earth only warming up about 15000 years ago. From 800 to 1300 the climate was very warm and man thrived, even in the "dark ages". Starting in 1350 things cooled off rapidly for the next 500 years most of which were miserable. Food shortages caused famines, storms killed thousands. In 1850 the cooling was over and since then things have warmed up a bit and man has thrived again even surviving a flu pandemic in 1918 and 1919 that killed millions of people. It is a fact that the earth warms and cools and blaming it on mankind is not a certainty.

I looked outside today, and realized that Al Gore is a dumb butt.

Jokes aside, I don't believe this is all our fault. Actually, I believe we are only a small contributor to this. Even the "world's leading experts" guess out their butt. I heard another expert in the field explain why that the "evidence" and computer models are based on false reasoning, and although they can possibly convey the future, odds are that the models do not address the root cause of global warming. A single volcanic eruption releases many orders of magnitude the amount of pollutants into the air that we are capable of making. Why doesn't the EPA ban volcanoes? Oh right, volcanoes don't care, because they are a part of nature. Thus, global warming is NATURAL. Creatures will go extinct because of it, and that's natural too.

However, even though global warming is natural, we should be responsible. Buy flourescent light bulbs because they use far less power, and you will save money. Buy fuel efficient cars and carpool when you can. Plant a tree.

Yes, it is a natural event! The claim that it is caused by man is one of the biggest hoaxes ever perpetrated. There is nothing mankind can do about it, except learn to live with it and adapt. If more people would realize this instead of falling for the phony claims, then more could be done in the way of understanding it and attempting to learn how to live with and/or combat its effects. Complaining about SUVs certainly doesn't help, any more than telling people to stop breathing or volcanos to stop erupting.

And for the person who said "six" prominent scientists say that it's a natural phenomenon.... the fact is that over 19,000 prominent scientists say it's natural and not caused by mankind. Unfortunately, it's only the ones who blame humans who get the publicity and media attention.

People can deny this all they want, but humans have increased the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and that is fact. Humans are slashing and burning the Amazon and other forests and that is fact. Humans are polluting the ocean (which decreases its activity as a carbon sink) and thats a fact. Add these up and you've got a recipe for human caused global warming -

I believe that we may be partly the cause of global warming but I also think that global warming is a natural event after all it has been slowly warming up since the last ice age. I think that the powers to be like to keep us preoccupied with fear of global warming so we dont turn our attention to other global problems which they like to keep us in the dark about.

No, it's not natural. People can wave their hands and make wild assertions, unsupported by data but the actual scientific data clearly shows they're wrong.

The arguments about volcanoes are flat wrong, bordering on ridiculous. Volcanoes emit a tiny fraction of what man produces. And the dust they throw up cancels most of that out.

"a far greater amount of CO2 is contributed to the atmosphere by human activities each year than by volcanic eruptions. Volcanoes contribute about 110 million tons/year, whereas other sources contribute about 10 billion tons/year"

http://www.geology.sdsu.edu/how_volcanoes_work/climate_effects.html

The IPCC report considered the measured values of solar variation. It's only enough to amount to 10% or less of the actually measured warming. And the warming is far more rapid than any natural cycle.

The scientific evidence is overwhelming, which is why these people, who are not liberals or environmentalists, think it's real. You may or may not respect all of them, but surely you respect some of them.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

"The overwhelming majority of atmospheric scientists around the world and our own National Academy of Sciences are in essential agreement on the facts of global warming and the significant contribution of human activity to that trend."

Russell E. Train, former environmental official under Presidents Nixon and Ford

"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican, Governor, California

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

John McCain, Republican, Senator, Arizona

"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."

President George Bush

It is mainly caused by man, although some natual gases can harm the enviroment also. All the fuel we burn every day in our cars and our planes, all the coal we burn.. the forests we burn all of these harmfull gases damage our enviroment. Make holes in the o-zone layer. The o-zone layer is there to protect us from the sun. this is why the polo caps are melting, and making our water levels higher. infact some countries will be under water all together if things continue. The polo caps alao serve a purpose, they reflect heat from the sun away from the planet.

Yup! Don't know why some people deny it. I got a pamphlet recently from people going door to door spreading their religion. On the pamphlet, it said god was punishing us. truthfully I wouldn't want to believe in a GOD that punishes people. Innocent animals and plants are dying too, what did they do to deserve "punishment" from god??

please I urge anyone who doesn't believe that the unusualy weather and the devistating hurricanes and flood is due to global warming to reconsider and start making a difference.

one easy way to start is to carry your own bag to super market or choose paper over plastic.

with well known scientists agreeing global warming is cause by human i dont know why regular joes like most of us here try to refute that finding. also the hole in the ozone layer i guess is natural too. i guess the crap we put in the air doesnt effect the environment at all, like cfc. go guys we should bring back cfc in the our aerosol cans because obviously most of the people here thinks we human have almost no effect on the environment.

No it is caused by PEOPLE.... smoking, cars, fires, but the problem with that it is a natual thing. We have to do some of the things we do so we can live.... So most of it is a natural cause.
