It's the same group that has been protesting since the Mathew Shepard incident (the young gay man who was beaten, robbed, tied to a fence and left for dead). They have even lobbied the town where he died to put up a marker celebrating the "Day Mathew Shepard went to hell."
They claim to be part of a baptist church, however the vast majority of the "members" are part of the same family and they ar almost entirely made up of lawyers.
Basically these guys travel from place to place to protest and when the city or town blocks them they sue claiming their civil rights have been violated and usually the city pays up to make the case go away.
these guys are absolute scum.
They now protest military funerals under the claim that the dead are America's punishment for allowing homosexuals to exist. It has nothing to do with whether or not the individual soldier was gay or not.
they are trying to make controversy so they can sue who ever prevents them from protesting.
since our country is based on the freedom of speech there in not much anyone can do unfortunately.
the best we can do is give our condolences to the families.

They should round up all those jerks and ship them overseas to fight. Not only are they completely ridiculous for hating gay people, they are terrible people for ruining soldier's funerals!
Their whole problem is: They think that our soldiers are dying in the war because the military allows gay people to join the service. Isn't that the stupidest crock of **** you've ever heard in your whole life!!! Those people need to get an education and learn some tolerance for goodness sake. They actually think they're doing the soldier's family a favor by doing this!

I've seen interviews with these people. They are clearly insane. Unfortunately, back in the 1960's the ACLU won a law suit that shut down most of the nation's mental hospitals, which is where these protesters would be if the ACLU had lost.

These are the nutjobs from Topeka. They're a hateful cultish group that espouses their twisted hate under the guide of religion. They picketed the Matthew Sheppard funeral with signs that said trash like "God hates fags." They are a morally reprehensible bunch of inbred trash. Ok- maybe not inbred, but they are all members of one family. You should look them up on google. The Phelps, I think.

That has got to be one of the most disgusting things I've heard in a while. I'm sure they are doing it for the media attention and don't care at all what the families of our fallen heroes are going through. I'm so mad now.
What makes me even angrier is I'm sure these are Bible-thumpers. Where is the love and compassion they claim to have? Truly sick....

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church have been doing this for a few years now. It has nothing to do with the sexual preference of that individual soldier. They protest homosexuality in America by calling dead troops "fag warriors". Go to
www.godhatesfags.com and see for yourself.
These people are disgusting.

I have heard about this, but I do not understand it. Perhaps there is some hidden meaning that will reveal itself at some point. But not that I can comprehend. I cannot fathom any connection at all, and even if i could I would never be able to understand how anyone group could be so disrespectful to upset people already traumatized. They must be extremely cold hearted whatever their agenda is--if they even have one.

Just google the name Reverend Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka Kansas. He and his little band of misfits are the ones doing it.

what the protestors are doing is freedom of speech. It is also downright disrespectful and disgusting. I think it violates the privilege to a decent funeral, especially of former service members.
